    Is Anyone in the Dallas area that could give me a little more insight as to what JB Hunt is up to? I talked to a recruiter and he says they have a dedicated Wal Mart position hauling produce. You have to run teams and you run all over the Midwest and south. It sounds like a team driving position in their regional division to me? Where is all this produce coming from?

    Anyways, He says once I'm on 90 days I can take a local job hauling for Whirlpool in Dallas. Supposedly it pays real well and is an excellent job. Is he just blowing smoke up my rear. I hear all kinds of bad things about JB Hunt. I did talk to a driver years ago and he liked it though. I don't know what to think.

    Whirlpool does pay pretty good but they also have the Intermodal deal in Haslett (local), & Jack in the Box (Regional) that I am aware of. I see some DCS trucks around, some pulling Chep & some pulling Quick Trip but I don't know where they run out of. There is also a local Weyerhaueser somewhere - maybe Garland or over in that area? The only catch that I can think of is that you usually have to live within like 30-50 miles of the account.

    They are pretty much like any other big carrier. They pay as little as they can to get by & their insurance is very expensive. They do or did have a good 401k plan & every once in awhile you will find a decent account manager to work for.

    I'd keep checking craigslist, your local paper, and maybe put JB on the back burner as a last refuge. I don't know your history but we were hiring if you don't mind the drive or the work. I can give you more info if your interested.

    truckinusa Thanks this.

    Don't ever believe JB Hunts promises. They tell everyone that they have a dedicated route and then get them in and tell them it is no longer available. They won't even check your background before you show up. You could waste several days and be told too bad. Go home. Keep looking if you can.

    In closing, let me just say that I am merely trying to educate as to why and how things work by providing factual first hand knowledge.

    You - meaning anyone reading this post can do with it what you want. We all will have or have had different experiences with companies - some hateful and others enjoyable. In the immortal words of Paul Harvey I'm just offering "the rest of the story! Good Day!"

    I don't mind - I currently work for Martin Brower out of Grand Prairie, Tx. We are the food distributor for McDonalds & Chipotle. It has it's good and bad points as does any job but at the end of the week I'm satisfied and it's hard to walk away from the money and benefits.

    You better read about your beloved Job Hunt on here. They have repeatedly done just what I said they do to many drivers. One of their recruiters used to post here about what other recruiters would lie about to get suckers in and get their commission. No all, but a lot. They are just like car salesman. they will lie their buts off to get you there. Some of their routes are ok, but many are garbage and they know it. Hence the lies to get buts in the seats.

    I can't speak about how things may have been beyond five years ago when I started with them. What I can tell you is that the information the recruiters are giving you now comes straight from the accounts.

    Here is how it all works as far as DCS goes;
    Each account fills out a profile which tells how many miles they average, pay, description of the work, time off, etc. This gets entered into the system and is updated as there are changes to each account.

    Once a week every DCS account will report to their Ops Mgr how many drivers they need. The Ops Mgr will give this info to the Regional Hiring Mgr at Corporate. They will then post this info out to the recruiters via internal systems. When you are talking to a recruiter all the info they have and or give you is on the computer screen in front of them. They are not suppose to give out any other information than what is presented to them. I realize that this does not mean they don't.

    Now for another synopsis; we are all human and suffer from selective hearing. I will submit that while not everyone suffers from this all the time I have personally witnessed people calling in about a job and only hear part of the information that is being presented. I have spoken to drivers who stated that the recruiter lied to them about one of my accounts only to find out that once again, they only heard half of what was being said - usually once they hear what the pay and home time is they quit listening! (lol)

    I'd like to close by saying that I'm sure there are, or have been recruiters that for some reason or another tried to answer questions to which they did not truly know the answer or even lied about something. I would still say however that 99% of the recruiters are currently doing their job correctly.

    What's funny is a couple years ago I saw a guy with a DCS day cab here in Shreveport, parked in his yard. Home every night but they tell me they don't hire from my area. Then how come they sent me an application if they don't hire from here?
