So I was on the road cruising along, went through a toll booth and noticed a loud tapping clacking noise coming from my engine bay that could be heard over the engine so I pulled over. Nothing loose nothing visible making the noise definitely some part of the engine...so I try to make it a little farther and 50+ miles down the road it explodes I knew it was something in the engine. I was thinking head gasket or something with the piston.
We later found that a piston assembly disintegrated and the was a hole in one of the cylinder walls...it looked pretty bad...
    602,xxx miles on a c-12 I've been driving for about 6 months.
I just want to know what went wrong why did this happen? I treated the engine good and always made sure it had oil... it was in a 2001 kenworth with a 10spd.

anyone of a million things could have caused it.

the shop will tear it down and find out why.

personally, i think the ELD did it.

Could have been any number of things. Pics of the failed parts would help.

spun rod bearing maybe? pushing piston slowly out of place more and more? until it just came out of the block, that'd be my guess but would need pictures

being a c12 when it should have been a C15? Heard a lot of C12's had the widow syndrome. Some even vented the blocks. But If it had been me, would have stopped. When you were at the toll booth. A knock 99.999% of the time, is only going to be bad. Not doing to go away in a few miles. But that's just me and how I do it.
