If you really want to confuse him, explain to him how buying the more expensive fuel can actually be cheaper.
That will make him scratch his head for a while....

I think the logic is this...should all the gas stations keep their fuel prices high because all of the demand for gas is gone right now? People staying at home. There is a surplus of gas. Thus the gas stations are making less money...etc. It is the same facts that the OP is complaining about. There is a surplus of drivers and thus the demand to get a load moved is less. That equates to loads being posted at cheaper prices, and drivers either taking them or passing them up. But someone WILL take them.

Selling fuel and hauling freight are vastly different.
The stations are still making a profit on the fuel, regardless of the price, although with less volume. The crude refiners are the ones taking a hit right now.
Choosing to haul a load at a loss is just dumb. Ya can't blame the shippers or brokers, it's not their fault there's someone willing to pay them to haul their freight.FoolsErrand, amberfeldt and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

Simply put- there is a glut of capacity in the market, and has been since the rates peaked in 2018 following the ELD mandate. The rates will continue to trend downward, especially with COVID-19 reducing freight volume. Until enough drivers either park, or the market bounces back, this is a trend that will continue.
But hey, feel free to throw out the impassioned "you need us!" posts if it makes you feel better. I'll continue to discuss market forces that are causing the low rates.larry2903, BoostedTeg, 86scotty and 3 others Thank this. -
Our Biggest problem is Our inability to Organize and unite with one another and hold firm on a Benchmark rate that’s worth our while. If we could all hold out and not move anything for 1 month. Picture 1 million truckers refusing to move a load... That would impact the entire industry and shake things up..

Hey brokers are just as important as truckers. Yeah maybe the owner op could go out and find loads themselves from shippers , but u aint gonna find the time to do that nor do most truckers have sales experience so u are severely lacking. As much as some brokers can make life miserable they are a valuable link in the supply chain and serve an important purpose
