One thing I can say, unequivocally, I really don't care for Wylie's trailers. Their double drops are too long and flex/twist way too much...and now that I have pulled one of their flatbeds (non-spread axle), I can say, those are right there at the bottom of my list of preferred equipment as well. They are aluminum frame conestogas, with a load bow in the frame. When empty, the conestoga is tight...when loaded, they are too loose. I can't understand why they would buy aluminum frame trailers for hauling glass (too much flex), and why they opted for standard tandems instead of spread axles...they ride horrible, even with air ride, the flex of the trailer makes it feel like you're pulling a load on a springboard.

I hate pulling the flatbed Maverick trailers. They are aluminum too and it feels horrible going down the road pulling the truck around corners and way too much weight at the top. Feels like I'm pulling an extra 20k.

How's the mpg pulling one of those?

The tandems are because of BC.

Which those trailers have about a 1 in 1000 chance of ever seeing.

Everybody else just uses slides. I've never moved them in probably 1000 glass loads.

They definitely do feel heavier. And if the shipper's b/l is anywhere near accurate, they are. Bills say I have just undef 42k of glass, the putty-tat scales say I am 78,400 w/half tanks. Normally I can haul 44,500+ on a flat and not have to scale

As for the mpg, about the same...since they castrated my dog, I get between 6.2-6.5

they must have not explored their options or got a heck of a deal on these because Moore has 2 types of spread axle trailers, fixed axle for the US and movable axles for western Canada. Although I pitty the driver who has to try to move the older trailers axles mainly because most of them haven't had the axles moved since they were bought

I’m currently looking at a Wylie truck pulling a Moore conestoga.

I think that's how we are cross-training. I've seen a lot of the Wylie Petes pulling Moore trailers, and a lot of Moore Macks pulling Wylie trailers. Maybe it's they're way of testing us to see how adaptive we are so they know who they can trust...or maybe I am giving them too much credit

This aluminum Wylie trailer and their weird securement system are doing something unusual. Glass moves around a little in transit. On a Moore trailer with their wiper-blade system, you get a little forward walk with the glass, but on this Wylie trailer, they have what looks like a mini truss with a rubber coated piece of angle aluminum that hangs on top of the glass then you run the strap over the top of that, down to a pivot on the foot, then out to the rub-rail and out to an exterior strap winch. With this kind of securement, it puts a lot of the pressure from the strap on a small 8" section of the glass, so you can't crank it down as much as you would a normal flatbed load...so as a result, the glass moves as the aluminum trailer flexes...but I have 2 of the 4 positions where they drop glass moving backwards...and I am only 1/2 way thru AR, and dreading the roller coaster roads in TX.

Load delivered a day early, then they sent me a load that didn't pu until after 1800 last night (out of the same plant). Went to pick it up and the yahoo Wylie loading supervisor has it loaded wrong. Jumbo glass (130 x 204) and mini-jumbo glass (same height but not as long) should sit on 4 base feet on a Moore double...he told the loaders to take the front base out. I spent over an hour on the phone with our safety people trying to get either it fixed or authorization to haul it like it is and they take the blame. I finally ran out of patience and started down the f‐Wylie road before I got results. (And this is being done by txt msgs via my flip phone because my smartphone died....right after I spiked it into the ground because I am tired of it screwing up in just about every possible way). Needless to say, I am expecting a call from Fargo or Mascot's management on Monday. I was very anti-Wylie with my texts.

That kind of weekend load sucks because there isn't anyone around who doesn't have their head up their ###. Good luck getting that cluster un####ed.

My week also ended on a ####ty note.

Was sat unpaid on Wednesday-Thursday. Got a load to pick up Friday morning for 200 mile DH + 400 miles loaded to deliver whenever I want because it's a guardian drop. Decided to get it there Friday night so I can get something for the weekend.

Predictably, 50 miles away from delivery at 5pm on a Friday I am informed that I'm wasting my time getting there before Monday because there won't be a load for me this weekend. Oh, and conveniently they did away with weekend pay last month.

I could have stopped at one of our terminals 2 hours earlier and been able to get a company car to go shopping, take a shower, laundry, watch Tv, etc. all weekend, but obviously it would be to much to ask for communication to go both ways. Our planners just leave you hanging until 5 minutes before it's time for them to start their weekend whether you ask for information or not.

Therefore today I just drove 2 hours to where I decided to spend my weekend instead of sitting at a glass plant in BFE.
