so here is some spec's from my ride
pushing a MXS c-15 had a nice guy who knows cat ECM's tweak it to comfortably strong.
When i had it on the Dyno last it was banging on 529hp and 2300 torque. I need to get it back into dyno and run it again.
its running that 13spd with the overdrive, the sound was not bad at all from the tranny. I do understand your difference of a 12L compared to a 15L, something about no replacement for displacement.
On the RPM curve I found that the sweetspot for the Cat/13 being 1500 - 1600. I can push it up to 2100 easy and get a pretty good pull.
It took me a few months with weight and terrain changes to get use to not shifting like i use to before tranny swap. I really like having a 2014 tranny and not a 2005 tranny,
On MPG before i was 80K - 3.8 MPG now 80k --- 5.7 MPG
I was averaging low numbers before the change and it was costly in fuel. My average was hitting 5.0 - 6.0 compared to my 3.5 - 4.75 .
So in a nut shell the cost of that 13spd was 4k and i saved that in my first 3 months of driving after install.
Its completely up to you on if you jump that shark. even though i had more motor than you, I still drove it in the 65 -72 range and was pretty happy. i had my burst when i needed it and the 68 mph cruise was great on MPG.1951 ford, PoleCrusher, singlescrewshaker and 10 others Thank this. -
The RTOO & RTO Auxiliary are 70s -80s vintage . .87 73 62. Most call em an old school double but it has 3 OD gears. Most don't have coolers either.PoleCrusher, singlescrewshaker, 650cat425 and 2 others Thank this. -

I guess we live in different worlds friend....
I have the exact same specs as you except with the 12.7 detroit.
my detroit has never been pulled over 1675 rpm, and that was by not paying attention one time. I try to never go over 1625.
And I've never seen the big hole. Would never pull our grades around here in .73, never mind .62 gear. No matter what motor you're using.
As far as pulling hills without shifting, I'd explode the pyro on these grades in 25 seconds!
Prolly blow the boost gauge right outta the dash too!! I try to keep boost under 22 on grades, and really prefer 20. ...Hate working my motor.
The whole idea of a .62 gear is foreign to me with a ratio any taller than 4:10
Interesting to me how other fellas are building their setups though. Thanks for sharing.singlescrewshaker, jamespmack, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this. -
You should pay way more attention to what @jamespmack says than me when it comes to detroits...he's got more knowledge than I'll ever have... But, that said, I will only put my detroit at 1670 by mistake, 2100 would terrify me. The max torque and max horsepower curves come together at approximately 1525 rpm. After that they are both on the decline side of the curve. So what is the advantage of 1550 and beyond.....? except premature engine wear.? Just my experience and MHO. Be pettin' old buck on the head, not kicking' his ###!singlescrewshaker, jamespmack, PoleCrusher and 5 others Thank this. -
She'll hold 1400 on a pull all day but i kick her up to 16-17 just to stress her less. Almost pulls like the old mixidynes how it's set up now1951 ford, singlescrewshaker, PoleCrusher and 6 others Thank this.
