I think we were meaning the same just I was wording it differently. I meant it as long legged with no torque because it keeps the rpms low.

Preach on Brother Jim, preach on.!! LoL
I'm no fan really of anything new either. The nicest of new trucks become so undesirable to me as soon as I spot a dang def tank hanging off her..Now a new Series 60 glider kit, I can get down with.. Well most..
Have you ever sat in the drivers seat of a FL Columbia..?
Thought for a while, "I could run of them.."
Not an awful looking aero, cheap, abundant, lots of pre owned Series 60 gliders out there.. Then I set behind the steering wheel, & the view from there was so atrocious, with the hood just dropping off out of sight, very plastic feeling, it completely ruined them for me..
I have an aero tractor, but the hood don't just slope down, & disappear on you like that. Better view IMO, & the ol fake wood dash grows on ya. Make me feel like I'm in a better days gone by, bygone era. Comforting.. If I end up in another tractor at some point, as of now I'm thinking another FLD, a Classic, or FLB..
Now I don't fully get the whole gear fast, run slow strategy.. Seems like lug, lug, lug, dump on perspective new OO, & rebuild at 400k-500k miles.. The economy obviously isn't there. Most these fellas in new trucks are telling us they might get 7..? Where's the benefit.?So they still get crap for mileage, & cost 3X as much to fix anything, & break down the same amount, if not more..
Think the way ol Buck is fleet spec'd is better. Low hp, hard to hurt, high revving, last 1-1.3mil before rebuilt.. Still good economy too..
Heck, I think it was @PoleCrusher that said one of the best, reliable, fuel efficient, fleet spec rigs he was in was a series 60 FLD..
Sorry.
