Ok that makes sense now. Actually drove a long logger with 80 gears hahaha. No really. 10 sp with a 4 sp aux and 2 speed rear ends. Why? Cobbed together trucks, jesus.

    I hate 10 speeds. IMO would rather have a 9 than a 10.

Now why would you hate a 10 and like a 9? I'm just saying, splitting gears is from the past, and I've had splitters fail to work, but drove some pretty tired 10 speeds that still worked fine.

I liked the steps between gears on the 9 better than 10s, been in quite a few diff 10 speeds and just wasn't a fan. I started on a 10 speed, indestructible for most part

Anybody had to deal with the old Spicer Syncro-Master 12 speed? 12 forward and 6 reverse gears.
Spicers first attempt at an air shifted married main/ compound setup.

It's nice to have an 18 for buttermilk loads, especially on icy roads and lots.

I think of 13/18 shifting without splitting as going up 1.5 gears, a little higher revs if not splitting.

They also had a single “sissy stick” 16 speed and 20 speed setup.
It was their attempt to give the 2 stickers a single stick and air operated aux. box. So that they could compete with the new Road Rangers.
Spicer ruled the world for trannies back then and all of a sudden here comes the Eaton-Fuller, Clark & Towne Road Ranger to change history.

Well when you run local and have nothing but steep grades especially ones with traffic lights at the bottom and the middle of them, 18 speed is everything. Especially when your lightest gvw is 73+. I shift all day long going up the hill whereas the guy without 18 speed is stuck on the low side of the trans because his next shift is impossible due to the fact of the rpm drop, weight, and road speed. Over the road drivers, yeah i could see where 18 or even 15 isnt necessary.

Another thing I like about an 18 is in stop and go traffic, can always find a gear to keep moving slowly without killing my knee clutching.
