Currently USF Holland in Columbia SC is paying out a four year scaled longevity rate $20-$24/hour with OT starting after 8 hours. Our new contract will bump up wages to $27/hour over the next four years.

####### they really DO pay less in the rest of the country!

LTL pays 23-27 to start up here in new england... tops out around 25-32 depending... just makes me shake my head... eventually amazon contractors is gonna pay more n' class a LTL in some regions and these companies r gonna get ess-screwed :p

Curious about what a diad is.

I worked for a company where they liked to call a lot. Moved on partly because of that, it shows that they don't know what a driver does, they only know about sitting at desks.

DIAD is what UPS parcel called their hand held computers that delivery drivers (brown box trucks) use to get their route, scan packages, get customer signatures, etc. at the barn I worked at.

I make about $22/hour. But if you include my benefits, I make close to $100k a year. I work for a good company and maybe they don't pay out top dollar, their benefits make up for it.

Reading back at my comment, I am not trying to be smug. But our health benefits are worth $14.22/hour.

I just went over my kids medical bill. He is 2 and had to go to the ER. Initial bill was $7k but the insurance covered $6.1 of it.

Then of course I worked for USF Reddaway, the sister company of USF Holland, and we had the same insurance that was $50/month. Same kid came out C-section at $26k and I was only on the the hook for $6.3k. I mean, yeah, thankfully we don't have emergencies and new kids pop out each day. But I know some companies want the employees to fork over $250+ a week for their benefits. And many of times, those benefits aren't that good.

That's just the thing. Here in the Northeast the wage is higher in the medical benefits are comparable to the rest of the country. for instance New Hampshire where I live mandates Workers Compensation Insurance, does yours provide that?

At the end of the day, the Northeast just pays better period. I got off the phone with a recruiter today who was low-balling me offering $0.43 per mile and I told him dude rent is over $1,000 a month up here just for a crappy one-bedroom I won't work for anything less than 55 *shrugs*.

We got to talk in a little more and he admitted that most of his drivers come from down south or out in the midwest where you can rent a two-bedroom apartment for 400 bucks a month...

$100,000 in pay and benefits puts you in the upper middle class down here in SC. We are on par with people that have a master's degree. Sure our pay is lower, but so is our cost of living.

You can get a 2,000 square foot, 4 bedroom, twin car garage home for $150k. And that is in the nicer part within walking distance of the local schools.

If I lived up in your area I would expect to be compensated higher. Wages down here just aren't competitive with the abundance of drivers.
