How many of us at the desk are aware that freight forwarders give loads to brokers to cover. I know its not illegal, but do shippers know and is it a bad idea to let them know? Seems like shippers should use a broker for domestic and a forwarder for intl moves.

I guess it kind of depends? My colleague who gets freight from a forwarder is always dealing with it either at a border crossing, or inbound/outbound from a port.

With my current situation, at least 1/3 of the biz comes from forwarders and other brokers....I struggle to prospect decent accounts because someone gets a few of their loads from a forwarder or another broker. Seems like it could potentially save a shipper some $ and with less hands in the pot it could allow for drivers to earn more $ per load.

Potentially. I mean, you don't actually know what the shipper knows and doesn't. But it's never a *bad* way to prospect, provided your agreements with the forwarder don't preclude back solicitation. Worth checking on any contracts you might have.
