Don't get me wrong, I've thrown plenty of good money after bad ideas. But doing rust repair and whole paint job on an '89 S10? You could just buy another one from down south cheaper.

Let’s not mix fiscal responsibility with sentiment. I spent over 8 large on a 87 S15.

Oh I feel ya on that, I just like to go sit at a restaurant sometimes and have a conversation with people who aren't truck drivers lol.

But definitely get yourself a good inverter and microwave. A small portable grill works wonders as well. Between those items you'll be able to chef it up.

no box stock 2.8 V6 that money was to restore body and paint. It was the last new vehicle my father in-law purchased. I did this when my mother in-law was still alive.

Went to 2 other body shops today... one advertises car restorations on its online site... But when I got there. he said he had no one working right now... And only one guy will be back and my car would take lots and lots of work and time... maybe months to get the whole thing done... and it might cost $10,000 who knows... and the rust will come back... blah, blah, blah... told me to go see someone else... felt very hopeless... :biggrin_2557:

The other body shop.. I couldn't get out of the vehicle because it was raining.. the guy saw my car from his glass door... said my car condition is pretty bad... they would charge $46.00 an hr + $35.00 per hr for materials (which seems to be standard around here)... Said would not be able to get rid of the rust... and that would come back a few yrs later maybe in much worse condition... Said "rust is a cancer"... it can't be killed... Yeah... I have heard that many times already... :biggrin_1square1:

This is the rust condition... driver side is much worse... :( Roof is terrible.... and the rear... :biggrin_2557:

    car.jpg
This is the result of yrs of "neglect"... I know... :( leaving car out in the sun and rain... with no care... while I was on the road driving the big truck... :biggrin_2557:
Last place I had my vehicle parked was rented.. for the big truck... so I could leave my vehicle while I was on the road and then switch when I took "home time" at hotel...
Yesterday I became even more heart broken.... Because I found more rust... on the floor.... driver side and passenger side... :biggrin_2553:

    20200428_181748.jpg
All my fault... :( the gasket around windshield should have been replaced a looooong time ago... But since there was no leakage, I just put tape on it and left it alone.. But when I came back from Brasil I found a pond of water in that area.... the insulation was soaked... and another section of the gasket was all torn, detached from the body... :(

    20200428_184932.jpg

I'm very sad... feels like my buddy is terminal... :biggrin_2553:
Now I am processing the info... considering things, re-thinking what I will do...
I may either drive the vehicle while it works till the floor falls off... Or I do a cheap paint work and live with the consequences... Or I wait till next year... when I will be back from Brasil again and maybe then I will have one of the body shops here work on it... the one that charged $65.00 per hr... I heard good things about them... But they are too busy right now with insurance storm related damages...
In the mean time, I will get the windshield fixed and the back window weatherstrip replaced.. that's also leaking.. :biggrin_2557: And will take care of a few other things...

    I know... I know... I know....
It's not about the money... I know nobody can understand... sometimes not even I understand myself... :biggrin_25523:
That's something that I will have to pray about and the right answer will come to me in due time...
Meanwhile, I will take the vehicle to the transmission place for fluid and filter replacement.. cause it's time for that... and a few other things....

And no.... I don't get you wrong.. I understand you... I guess everybody I talk to thinks I am "nuts" or an idiot... :biggrin_2552: Whatever... Some others have told me they would like to buy it.... But I am not ready to say "bye bye" to my buddy.... :biggrin_25513:
