Last time I sat in a new car I felt like Ted Stryker from “Airplane!” sitting down in the pilots’ seat of the jet.

Its probably the people thinking they can get it off you for 200.00 then turn around and rod the thing for oh I don't know, a bunch of money.

On the other hand I think they regret today's crappy vehicles with bad engineering and overdone computer *&^% and want the olden days of just plain good vehicles that run.

Ive been on the fence myself with that crappy tahoe. I can either drop a crate engine into it and replace one differental gear or junk it and get a newer vehicle for the same few thousands of dollars. Decisons and decisions. Maybe flip a coin and commit. But not just yet. Its a fire risk with the failed shield above the converter below due to rust. God only knows what it will cost to remedy that...

The answer is something called patina. It's been the latest rage in hot rodding for about four years now. It came along right after the love affair with flat black paint. Honestly, when done right, it does look really cool, but you gotta have an eye for it. I've even seen guys go so far as to paint rust that replicates what you've got going on, then use a flat clearcoat to seal the deal.

The Patina look is something that has been gaining popularity.

Started out with the Rat Rod folks and has been creeping out to other groups.

Some folks pay serious money to get a fake Patina style paint job.
