    I absolutely agree with what you are saying.

    But honestly my opinion is that transparency is not going to fix everything for everyone. You can't fix stupid. There are probably always going to be guys that for whatever reason will work for very little and in the end go under. And in the meantime make it more difficult for everyone else.

    But for those that are good business people and that are great negotiators, when they sit down and they see the entire pie and they see how it is going to be split, it will work out for them.

    Not to mention it will probably put a stop to or greatly slow down double brokering.

    What will happen is when you see whatever your lane is generally paying and all of the sudden you have a broker contact you and his rate is way below everybody else's you know that load was double brokered.

    And the good news is those guys will have a much harder time finding trucks to haul their double brokered cheap freight.

    The brokers with the best prices will have access to the most trucks and the best carriers.

    For that reason, It is in their best interest to concentrate their profit by selling their service to the shipper rather than attempting to undercut and make up the profit by paying the Carrier less.

    Now there are good brokers that want to get a good price for their service and try to give the Carrier a reasonable price also.

    So transparency would benefit them as well as the Carrier.

    I see it as a win win.

    I agree with you that you have to do what's best for yourself

    But I think when we are talking about things like policy and regulations those things affect so many people that really the best answer is something that will benefit the most people and help improve the general situation.

    I don't know what's going to happen with the jobs let's hope they come back.

    But I don't know if it will do anything to change this industry even if more people want to get into it.

    If they go to work for a Mega they're gonna make less than they were making and their life will be their job.

    The lifestyle and everything that goes along with this business is not for everyone.

    I know a guy that had a driver leasing business. I guess around the mid nineties he was making all kinds of money. Literally the money was just pouring in for him.

    By around 2005 or 2006 all he did was complain. He complained because during that span of time more driver leasing companies opened up down the street from him, up the road from him, in the next town over from him, and it was much harder for him to make money.

    This is not something unique to trucking. Wherever someone is making money someone else is going to see that and want to do it.

    Those that find a way, survive.

    § 371.3 - Records to be kept by brokers.
    (a) A broker shall keep a record of each transaction. For purposes of this section, brokers may keep master lists of consignors and the address and registration number of the carrier, rather than repeating this information for each transaction. The record shall show:

    (1) The name and address of the consignor;

    (2) The name, address, and registration number of the originating motor carrier;

    (3) The bill of lading or freight bill number;

    (4) The amount of compensation received by the broker for the brokerage service performed and the name of the payer;

    (5) A description of any non-brokerage service performed in connection with each shipment or other activity, the amount of compensation received for the service, and the name of the payer; and

    (6) The amount of any freight charges collected by the broker and the date of payment to the carrier.

    (b) Brokers shall keep the records required by this section for a period of three years.

    (c) Each party to a brokered transaction has the right to review the record of the transaction required to be kept by these rules.

    [45 FR 68942, Oct. 17, 1980. Redesignated at 61 FR 54707, Oct. 21, 1996, as amended at 62 FR 15421, Apr. 1, 1997]

    Each party has the right to view the record of the transaction.

    The record of the transaction is everything that is listed above including what the shipper paid the broker.

    This is what you sign your rights away to every time you work for a broker.

    I guess “trust but verify” doesn’t work in this industry.

    How about a compromise?

    load posted on boards needs to have a price.

    load cancelations need proof.

    what ever the price is that’s it, it can not be lowered for reasons like “I have someone else who offered less to haul, would you do it for even less?”

    I am against capping profit, this way broker can keep their profits a secret, and still be upfront.

    Oh and make double brokers pay big big fines and federal offenses with mandatory jail times.

    don’t care much for those, but these should be negotiated.

    Like 0 if driver fault, full pay if receiver or broker at fault.

    here at TX brokers are playing the game the cat and the mice last Friday i was on truckstop load board the whole day since 8am till 3pm trying to get a load nothing came up for the price i was looking the rates here at TX are dropping a lot they used to pay 1300 a route now same route somne brokers are offering 675 to 850 if you are lucky you get 900 to 1000 and you have to come back empty because that route has no loads coming back always has been like that hard to find loads coming back home .... so that Friday i saw this same broker every 1 hour taking out couple of loads paying 650 from houston TX to abilene TX .. then 10 minutes later the broker put it back same load paying 750 .. nobody took that loads so that broker was all day long doing that moving loads in and out load board and changing prices ... thats why i say cat and mice game :*( is so sad wen you give reasons to a broker why you cant take a cheap rate and they dont care wen just to replace a spare tire its 200 dollars and some of those loads sometime wont cover even that

    Yep , here in Utah they are doing the same thing..
    they know exactly what is going on with us.
    Yesterday, Uber had a load going to Phoenix for 900.00 for 670 miles. I asked for 1400 . The person who answered the phone, she sound like she was embarrassed that her company was offering to pay that kind of rate . She was like “I’m sorry , I know that you guys need more money , but I’m not allowed to pay anymore than that” even they know they are #### to us .
