Highmount. Economically Versatile?

Anything else that pays more. lol

 

The way it looks like owner operators going to be extinct pretty soon everywhere but specialized trucking. But, even there competition is fierce, if your equipment is paid and you’re eligible for unemployment, then park your truck and collect. No need to be in the bloodbath. “Thank you“ banners on top of the overpasses and from White House is not going to pay for your equipment repairs/maintenance, insurance, tolls etc. Small business loans has to be paid back as far as I understand - negative cash flow is not going to turn positive.

 

Logic says you can unhook from a high-mount and hook a dry van or whatever. In reality Im not sure how well that would actually work. The competition for those loads is stiff and the money they make is criminal from what I see. So Im not so sure if you’re not just swapping $$ with no real upside.

Like you and many others here Im in a stinger and I sat home for 5 weeks. The buyer/wholesaler I haul for bought 39 units 1.5 weeks ago and I’ve been running my backside off to get them moved and keep him very happy in a market full of very hungry drivers.

It is quite difficult right now, but nothing ever stays static forever. But one thing is certain...I will not bastardize my business by accepting units/loads that offer me no benefit.

 

When the rona' crisis started, I'll admit it, I started looking for a plan B. So I thought, heck, I'll sign up with JB just in case the wheels fall off my car hauling biz. All it took was one look at their loadboard to see that I would be better off sacking groceries than trying to make a profit off of their "loads".

 

I thought the same thing about a highmount when I traded in my sterling on a new stinger. I thought because I live in a port city with two rails and two auctions (minus copart/iaa) that I would have plenty to haul.
