What do you mean "they drop down 3-4 mph"?
I can't count the times I've dropped down 3-4mph while being passed only to have the passer slow down and hang out next to me.

    Why, just why?

    Zombies...

Rule of thumb is to pass at 5mph or higher and only when there’s a good opening.

However this leaves something out, does your truck allow you to go more than 5mph than the drivers you’re contemplating passing? What about these 63mph trucks out there? Do you really want to sit behind them all day?

I have a 65mph truck, I will pass a 63mph truck only if it’s clear in the hammer lane 1 mile back.

The ones that tempt me are these 64 1/2 mph trucks. It’s absolutely annoying. You keep coming up on them and then you have to back off. You think the math out, yes it adds up to virtually nothing at the end of the day, but it still eats at you.

Should be a law that governed truck can only be set in speeds evenly divisible by 10. This way you would have 60 mph typical fleet trucks and 70+mph for fleets that understand that time is more important than saving 5 gallons on a trip.

The problem would be a 60mph truck with tall rubber attempting to pass a 60 mph short rubber. Still would have the same issues. If they wanted to stop the slow truck drag races, all they would have to do is, at the end of a 1 mile shootout, issue a $1000 ticket to the loser of the race. Regardless of the lane choice.

That’s the smartest thing I’ve heard in a while. You punish the looser, this way the guy in the right lane must yield to the one passing. Hmm, who said common sense is dead?

And I assure you I drive like I am not the only one on the road. I make every reasonable effort to not hinder anyone.

Have you ever road behind someone for miles while they are traveling slower than you? Although I have waited for many miles until an opportunity to pass exists where I am having minimal impact upon traffic flow and other drivers, I will pass a slower truck when it is reasonable to do so. And I'll bet you do too.

What you descri e is o e of my biggest pet peeves. Several times a day I'm asking on the CB "ABC you were in a big hurry when you passed me, why did you slow down in front of me?".

In the last week I think I understand what's going on, at least with Freightliners. The Funkliner cruise-control, say you set it at 65, will on flat-ish and slight descents be happy to maintain 62-63 mph IF YOUR FOOT IS NOT PRESSING THE "GAS" PEDAL. So the passing/slowing driver was "mashing the gas" to get maximum speed in his epic journey to pass you doing 1/2 mph slower than him. Once he's back in thevright lane his foot comes off the pedal, cruise-control returns to lolly gag mode as he puts his filthy feet back on the dash and he's now slower than you. I enjoy that mot one driver in 20byears that responds on the CB ever admits they slowed down. I have radar proof those drivers are filthy lying jerks. To s ofbtrucks have a display of the speed and distance between them and the vehicle in front.

Mashing the pedal while on cruise-control will make the truck work harder to maintain you selected speed and also prevent auto-slowing when you get 600bfeet from a slower vehicle. Like most bad habits you can blame smartphones, lazy & distracted rookies trained by the same with types but with 6 months more experience. That's my theory.

My truck will do a good 95, it doesn't take me miles to pass the guy in front of me.
