Yesterday I go to pick up my load going to the house. It's a 200 mile run with a live unload, fcfs with one dock, then 15 miles to the yard. Drop, hook, no issues and I have 4:15 on the 8 hour clock. Go to out gate and the guard accidentally breaks the seal so we need to redo the paperwork. By the time I get the new paperwork I have 3:55 on the 8 hour clock. Could I make it? Maybe, some would say probably, but I know that I-41 was down to one lane and I know I have some 2 lane roads with some small towns so it's a bad risk. So I sit twiddling my thumbs for another 10 minutes, then bogey down the road, pulling into the customer just behind another truck. Thankfully the other driver sat in his cab for a few minutes (don't know why, don't care either) and I get checked in before he starts walking in. Two hours later I pull out of the dock. Got to the yard with 2:15 on the 14.

If I could have combined the on duty of the d/h with the waiting for paperwork time I could have been down the road 10 minutes sooner. You never know when that 10 minutes is going to come in handy. In other words, same money less time spent.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten out of a dock with 8:30-9 on the 14. I've eaten, I'm rested but I'm fighting a stupid 8 hour clock that encourages me to either run hard or be less efficient. I take breaks when I want/need to. The 30 minute break rule is asinine and should be eliminated. At least with the rule change it becomes immaterial.

For guys that run the recap it's annoying shutting down early because of a short 70 while they still have plenty of time left on the 11/14. It's made worse when you need to start a little earlier than you'd like in order to make your appointment time.

    Exactly

That 1 hour subtracted from the 8/2 split doesn't help diddly Squat.

Give us the option of taking a 5/5 split at the minimum . I would have Killed for that option running around Chicago

They aren't going to do that. And I look for it to go into effect as proposed barring judicial action.

I'm just happy to stop the 14 hour clock with 2 or 3 hours off duty. Could have gotten back with a 2 or 3 hour rest, instead of marking line 2 for 8 hours.

It's will be huge improvement with new regulation. Now truck drivers do 15 minutes truck fuel and 30 min. break. Total time is 45 min.

As it should be, fueling should be logged as on duty but off the drive clock so as to count towards your 30 minute break.

It gets you out of the truck and gets you moving around and your blood pumping again.

Before it was Stupid. Stop and fuel on duty. Quick find a place to park or pull up and log off duty and run inside to get your receipt

No BREAK what Soever. Just stress because the 30 minute break just removed the little bit of Leeway time you had going to your delivery because of unforeseen traffic.

More important than what line it is logged!
Park, change duty status to off duty, sit in seat until 30 minutes is up, then go back to driving. What, as far as health benefits, does that accomplish? On duty break. Getting out of the seat, walking around, regardless of how much time it takes, gives you the health break that ostensibly the 30 minute break was to provide. (The other reason was a bone thrown to the anti-trucking groups that reduced the amount of time a driver could work, even just a little.)

You know, I'm pretty sure we're the only industry with a federally endorsed earnings cap...
