I haven't driven since 12/30/19. So today I have to make a run to Decatur. Nice easy one, about 110 miles. Got an almost new KW daycab. It was choked down to 65, but didn't have the safety crap on it thankfully. Not a bad truck. Drove OK, nice dash, etc. Still rather be in a Volvo. Why do they make these day cabs so tight? No legroom at all. I hate them. If you are over 5'10 it's a pain. Thing got crummy mileage considering I was very light, about 7.4. Too much gear I think. I was turning 1300 @ 65. But anyway, I made it home safe without damage. Felt good to be driving again.
I forgot to warn you......

1300 @65?? I remember trucks that never saw 65 ( except Georgia O/D) and it was 2100 all day. I know, it does feel good to drive a truck again. It reminds you of why you went into this profession. I've tried several times in my career, to be a casual driver. It always started out well, but before I knew it, I was on my way to Wilkes-Barre PA with a load of cheese,,,"just this once". It just doesn't work in trucking, Lord knows, I've tried. BTW, If I had a nickel everytime I heard, the Pete ( or KW) cabs are too small, I'd be rich. They are perfect for me, I love 'em. Volvo, IH, WS, Freightliner, too big.
Rideandrepair, BigDog Trucker, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this. -
I used to pass those Poor Souls driving all hunched over their steering wheel and felt their pain.
In their tailbone.
I barely made it 2 weeks with the factory seat in my Western Star that only reclined back like 5 degrees before I got my company to replace it with a new Legacy.
Leaned back and comfy makes the miles melt away.
I don't know how guys do dedicated down the same old route bouncing around in those day cabs.Last edited: May 27, 2020
