Just curious, do any of you have your own safety harness that you carry in the truck?

I had to wear one today that the stench was so bad from it I about threw up. Had to change my shirt and pants afterwards because the smell wouldn't go away. I getting ready to light that shirt and pair of pants on fire once I'm done typing this message. :violent3:

This isn't the first time either... I think it was so bad at this place because they store them in sealed rubbermaid containers outside so no fresh air gets to them when not in use, they just sit in them hot humid storage boxes.

Looks like prices vary on them from like $50 to $1500... This one below is like $60 at Home Depot, think I'm going to order one... I'll have to personalize it somehow so the shipper knows I'm not stealing theirs...

Have to admit, this has crossed my mind several times. Most often, the ones at a shipper are so beat and like you say, less than desirable.

get a pink one, seriously, no one will want to use or borrow it. The question is are you stud enough to wear pink?

Go to Walmart and have a dogtag made with your name on it and put that on there, use a cable type seal so it doesn't look like you just put it on their's and said "thats mine now."

I ended up buying my own back around 08 or so as more and more places required them. Most places we loaded had either green or yellow so I ordered a safety orange one from a place in Missoula. I paid just under $200 for the one I had.

I’m curious what are you Guys loading? I need one to climb up my 30 ft ladder to fix a vent on the house. Every time time I try, ladder starts shaking, and the three people I’ve know who fell, 2 died, 1 almost, flashes through my mind. Safety’s no joke.

Mostly it is used where you tarp. A number of places have had people fall when tarping for some reason. Think the OSHA reg is what drives that. Most flatbeds run close to 4ft to the deck, then add load height.
If memory serves me, OSHA is ladder for 4 to 6 feet, over that fall protection is required.

Always have your own harness. I use my tower harness when loading or offloading my manlift. The 60 dollar ones at home depot are sufficient for fall arrest, but you CANNOT trust that other peille have taken care of them properly, especially if they're constantly exposed to moisture, elements and chemicals. These things are made out of synthetic materials that break down. Your life is contained within one of those, take it seriously.

Also, in regards to OSHA standars, if you fall under construction CFR, then above 6feet you need fall arrest, if you fall under General Industry, its 4 feet. If you are on a ladder that is properly secured and placed, OSHA doesnt require fall arrest unless the ladder is a permanent installation (on tower or side of building).

    JonJon78 Thanks this.
