So I found a decent deal on a dump truck for a side hustle I wanna do, issue is it’s 33k pound truck, is it possible to register it at 26k so no need for a cdl? The dmv is the one saying I can do this but doesn’t make sense to me

The DOT guy is going to look at the door sticker to see the mfg rating when you get stopped and don't have a CDL. Then you might have the argument over fake registration if the registered weight is way below the mfg weight rating.
And what would be the purpose of registering below the mfg weight rating?

Yes, companies like Pepsi and Coke do it all the time, 3 axle tractors registered @ 24 to 54 instead of 80. But his also opens you up to overweight tickets at a lower rate. So make sure you never gross more than the road taxes you chose.

Yes, you can register up OR down from the CGVW -- but DOT goes by CGVW. I've done both, usually because it's cheaper to register down, or to avoid over weight tickets (think pickups with trailers.) Scale house inspectors tend to think in terms of pounds per axle and as long as all that is good, they don't generally look at the actual GVW. But on a full level I, I'd not want to be in a 33K truck without a CDL.

Never said it was hard, just don’t have them time to get it, that’s the issue
