Edit, well I just saw someone already posted a share your ride thread lolol. And I don’t know how to delete.

although the that one doesn’t really go into why you picked you truck.

I think this section is one of the best sections of Truckers Report.

Many people come here for some sage advice.

Asking about what truck to buy, O/O vs leasing on vs company driver etc. older truck vs newer truck etc.

So I thought it would be really cool to see some info about y’all. You don’t want to post up that is cool but I would like to here about what y’all drive and haul and for how long y’all have been in this.

What type/brand/model of truck do you have and why did you pick that truck?

Are you strictly an O/O or are you leased on to a company like JB Hunt or Mercer or Landstsar ?

    Regards

    1995 379 Pete, with 120” sleeper. 12.7 S60.

Leased on to LS. Initially as a ‘training step’ toward my own authority, however I’ve remained.

I bought the truck for the simplicity of the pre EGR engine, the 13 speed, and the sleeper - handy on places like construction sites or pipe lay down yards with no facilities.

A Pete w/a Detroit, that’s rare. I figured you had an 435e in it. Beautiful Truck. Nice find.

It was. And right under my nose - 40 miles away.

I bought it at 1,100,000 miles, and I’m the third owner. The first owners names are in the glovebox.

The husband died, wife parked it for 7 years. She died, kids sold it to 2 nd owners - husband and wife team at LS.

Relatively rare find, but if you keep looking, you find them. I’ve almost completely rebuilt it in 2 years, just kingpins left, all else has been replaced.

Won’t sell it either - learned that lesson after rebuilding a T2000 - still running good.

I understand the opinion of ‘tool not truck’ - but OTR Trucking (well trucking in general) is an exception. I never see a chromed out concrete mixer or backhoe - but we spend so much time with the equipment, I fully appreciate beautiful looking equipment in this industry.

Pride in your ride, I guess. Any pride is good.

I didn’t buy it for the model of truck - but soon learned it’s a favorite of many. From grandmas to little kids - you’d be surprised at the thumbs up I get.

When the 379 came out. Detriot 60 was the standard engine. Cat and Cummins were the options. First time in history that a Cummins was not the standard with Cat and Detroit the options in a Pete. My godfather bought a ‘88 with Detriot and than tried a 377 with a Detriot in ‘92. Both were standard factory dealer spec already on the lot when he bought them.

I don’t know about being standard. Series 60 came out around the same time as the 379. I remember a lot of Cummins in 359s before that, and usually b model Cats in the 379s, and W9s, Detroit’s seemed a little more common in the W9s. Very common in the T600s. But the 379s, and W9s were generally cheaper, with a Detroit. Almost considered Blasphemous. Lol.

Most if not all the sales brochure literature for Pete back then and the spec sheets showed the detroit and 10 speed as standard no cost. I’ve got a brochure from ‘92 that shows the model 376 came with 11-24.5 bias ply tires standard. Radials on that model were still optional.
Back in the 60’s when my 351 was built the Cummins NH250 normal asperated was the standard no cost in all Pete models. Everything else was extra $ option and you paid good wages for the prevlidge of extra power from a 350 Cat or 335 Cummins.
