IMG_20200709_104933.jpg I had something hilarious happen this morning.

    Appt time 8AM
    Arrived 730AM
    Untarped by 8AM
Cleaned up all of my stuff and put it all back into the trailer by 830AM and it's hot as hell unloading outside in the blazing sun with no clouds anywhere here in Bradenton FL so I just wanted to get back to the AC.

They told me at 730 that they'd start unloading me as soon as I untarped but apparently somebody got lost because when I started asking what was up at 9 the guy inside said that he can't find someone and everybody else is loading outgoing trucks.

Ok, well I sit and wait and plan on getting detention. About 1015 they roll some forklifts outside but it's still one dude and apparently he can't find someone to help.

About 1030 the clouds roll in, still have all of the glass on the trailer. 1040 there are 2 workers here and theyve moved a couple pieces off and now it starts raining hard. All of a sudden at 1050 there are 4 workers outside moving like they are late for a date.

Let me guess, Trulite. Knowing how hot it was, the unloaders might have either called off or passed out with heat stroke.

Hussle hussle hussle. Gonna run 1350 mi in 45 hrs. Including a run thru The Gorge and down Black Mountain with 45,000 lbs.

I also got a nice surprise on this week's paystub (for a change). I guess I ran more miles than I calculated last month. I got a $300+ performance bonus on top of a good mileage week.

Yeah it was that dumpy trulite. Never seen one that bad. Parking lot full of mountains of empty wooden crates.

I was untarped for them at 8. If they were worried about the heat then waiting won't help and they should know that better than anybody.

I usually pull a conestoga in there, and usually the load is a mixed load so some goes up the ramp on the one end down where they ask you to park, and then some goes all the way down at the other end. And of course, the leather padded unloaders have to walk every pack of glass in. Not sure why, but I have had more outdoor unloads in FL than anywhere else.

    TokyoJoe and Farmerbob1 Thank this.

I'm glad you found something that suits you. After my second truck spent enough time in the shop to cost me a chapter 7 and a foreclosure, I climbed out of the truck and behind the desk. I lived in the Chattanooga area, and my first stop in the office was at Farm2Fleet. I'm sure you can find plenty of threads about what that turned into. When MaxTrans bought what was left of the company and laid me off, I went to US Xpress. I lasted 2 and a half years in that meat grinder before I landed my current job at the company I plan to retire from, and said company paid to relocate me to the Florida panhandle.

I looked up your profile on a lark, after reminiscing a little about my days at Crete and remembering meeting you at the Lenoir City terminal.

How's things, other than haulin' glass?

Honestly, I am glad I am an OTR driver, things at home with my wife's family are a soap opera. She is starting to see why I won't even speak to my distant siblings.

Ya know, after nearly a decade on the road, I'm liking this desk stuff. I manage drivers on a dedicated account, day cabs, home-daily kind of stuff doing supermarket deliveries. Only one customer to deal with, and we know every place we go like the back of our hand. And my drivers make more than I made as a fleet manager at US Xpress, even with all the bonus money I made there for hitting my revenue miles and driver retention goals.

    Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

These folks are trying to kill me...and I will die with money in the bank and a smile. On a load from Laurinburg to the Elkhart, IN area for Monday. Then live loading out of Carlton, MI Mon afternoon headed for Covington GA for Weds, all on a Moore double drop, so I get load pay. I guess since they found a driver who can successfully load and deliver without breaking stuff, they keep putting me on these. i am on a pace that will get me very near 12k miles.
