I was just informed that the initial incident that sparked this "saga" was a huge deal because the power divider did go out.
I'm reading that you can drive without the rear driveshaft but my drivers are saying that is meant for short distance. The units they just picked up were going from Missouri to Ohio.
I feel like I'm losing my ever loving mind with these drive shafts, to be quite frank.

So somebody knew the shaft was gone and chose to drive them with the power divider in.

Whoever said it will cause damage by driving with the power divider locked and the interaxle shaft removed is wrong. It should not cause an issue unless the driver is an idiot and locks it in while trying to get the truck rolling.

One of the drivers told me it will "tear the rear end out of it" and I'm not sure what to make of that. -
1. You don’t have to get under the truck to see the short shaft is gone unless the truck has a full enclosed deckplate. You can look from the rear of the truck and see it.
2. The driver would’ve had to engage the power divider to get the truck to move and he would’ve been staring at a light on the dash the entire trip.
3. The distance you describe should be no issue for a bobtail truck to drive with the divider engaged.

The incident that started all of this was going from NC to OH. The vehicle broke down and we had a hefty bill for the repairs. That transportation company is stating we are responsible for all of the repairs and their bill for having a driver pick up and attempt delivery.
Now I have MY drivers going out and picking up units that also do not have the rear drive shaft in them.
The information I am receiving is all over the map. When they are back, I am having one of them walk out and show me EXACTLY what they mean. I NEED to understand this stuff.REO6205 and Dale thompson Thank this. -

That’s the rear drive shaft, easily visible while standing at the rear of the truck.
And are you bringing your drivers back until the issue is figured out or are you still trying to get the trucks back?
