That is relative to the operator, a person can run a high HP engine and get better mileage, just because the HP is there doesn’t mean you have to use it.

But, but, I can take the twins off and put a single turbo on and it will run way better. ;)

I love my tuned twin acert!

I had a tuned ACERT. I now have a tuned 6NZ single turbo that has about 30 more hp. I miss the ACERT and would switch motors if I could. The ACERT got better mpgs and had way better throttle response. I may try the ACERT twins on this 6NZ.

I absolutely second the comment 6nz is overrated... twins are way better hands down, instant throttle responce, better fuel mileage......

I found with my c15 Sdp (converted back) got better fuel mileage when I added hp hauling 140k. At 650 it is way way better on fuel then when it was at 475 as I don't shift nearly as much on hills! There's a stretch of rolling hills that I used to constant have to drop a half gear over and over or even a full gear but now I just glide over without touching the shifter.

I wouldn’t say the 6NZ is overrated. I think pulling Dallas Pike in WVa The 6NZ I have now would get to the top faster than my ACERT. BUT..... on shorter steeper hills and back country roads the ACERT is better. It had so much low end power. You could have set the rev limiter to 1750 on the ACERT and I doubt I would have noticed. It rarely seen 1650. The 6NZ doesn’t get interested until 1500 but pulls great up to 2000.

So the 475HP C15 with Twin Turbos is an Acert engine?

Would a single turbo conversion make it a better motor than the 6nz itself?

I'm new to CATS want to learn before I get one.

Yes if it has twin turbos (actually they are compound turbos) it's most likely an accert. The problem with an accert isn't the twin turbos, it's the tuning. Most guys with a well tuned compound turbo cat wouldn't trade it for a single turbo. Reread this thread and I think you will see that

Not neccessarily. The "Bridge" MBN was available at 475 and single turbo.

I love the BXS I drove. Problem is the tuning.

The tune that’s in it now is much much better.

Had a 550 tune from Cat in it. It was no more powerful than our 3406E with only 475 hp.

    Now it’s a 575 tune with 2,050 tq.

    Difference is night and day.

I wonder if it’s actually 575 at the wheels because it pulls so good.

Fuel economy is much better too.
