My card expired last week. Per the FMCSA waiver I am good to go until Sept 30th on the expired card.

Not that it is a huge difference but since they are only good for 2 years should I wait until closer to Septs 30th to renew? Who knows they might even extend the waiver longer. Doesn't look like the virus is going away anytime soon. Or should I just go ahead and renew it now.

I am an owner/op so it comes straight out of my pocket and is always a waste of time. The idea of essentially getting 26 month card instead of a 24 month one appeals to me.

At the price of the Physical vs the length of certification, you would only be gaining $15-$20, so it really doesn't matter. I'd get the physical at a time it was convenient to you rather than wait until just before the expiration of the waiver.

yeah keep it current, you don't want to be sitting home in Sept because the whole world is closed down, or in a situation where you must show a valid medical card TODAY in order to drive, right ? Your expired card in your wallet won't do much good.

    Prepared is the key.

No one has any idea on the state of affairs for September 30. We could very well be locked down again.

Have you even called to see what the procedure is these days. Is an appointment going to be needed?

The government ain’t going to let the trucks stop rolling. If things are worse and locked down I am 99% sure they are going to extend the waiver.

I really wasn’t planning on waiting until the last day but I was thinking of waiting until early September to go get it. If I can’t find a way to get one in a whole month I am confident the gov will be extending the waiver.

The cost isn’t that huge of a deal it just always is a hassle and wastes several hours to go do. If it isn’t required why do it?

I paid my taxes this year on July 15th too. They changed the rules so I didn’t see any sense in sending it in before it was required.

I was basing my statement on, if you pay $60 for your 2 year card, then 60/24 = $2.50 per month. With that figure, you would be saving $5.
Again, i would just get the physical when it was convenient and not wait until the end of September.

I always go by, never put off for tomorrow what can be done today. With the way things are running right now, I'd get it done asap...

That is my motto when it comes to getting work done but when it comes to governmental red tape I only jump through their hoops when I absolutely have to. Our town of 250k people has over thirty locations that offer them. I am not too worried. I mean I sure as heck wouldn’t wait until the 29th but if I can’t get it done in a month with over thirty locations to choose from you can bet on the waiver being extended. The feds ain’t going to allow a bunch of trucks to be shut down during a pandemic because of medical cards if the providers are too backed up to provide them.
