@Farmerbob1 any plans on finding a good private shop and stop going to dealers for every repair?

No. The plan is to buy a new truck when this one is paid off, and let all non-maintenance repairs be the manufacturer's problem.

650k miles on it though, which is more than most single-driver trucks will do in that timeframe.

Where do you take your hometime at? Even with a newer truck you’d be better off forming a relationship with an independent shop for non-warranty repairs. You need a shop that you get along with that will stop working on a major project on someone else’s truck to get you out the door in an hour for something simple.

I take my hometime in the Atlanta area and live in Columbia, SC. I used to live in Atlanta, and every hometime I grab some stuff out of storage and move it up to SC in a rental vehicle.

Until I get the Atlanta storage unit cleared out, hometime is a bit complex.

Also, the account I pull has several shipping and receiving locations in ATL, and none that I know of in SC.

Wow you have been running the wheels off that thing, 207 thousand since January 2019 and enduring a rebuild and broke down all the time.

Can't run miles like that when broke down 'all the time.'

Yes, the engine rebuild was a fiasco, and I have been shut down for repairs when I should have been driving, a few times, but most of my repairs are done during 34's or during home time.

Going to the shop to get the truck now. Got myself looking decent because the shop foreman and I are going to look at the first A/C repair notes, and the second and have a polite little chat about how the root of the problem appears to be the same.

I strongly suspect the problem was the poor ground the whole time, and I bought a new compressor for no reason.

However, I have a new compressor, so I won't quibble too much on that. The charges for the second round of diagnosis and repair, however?

I do not believe I should be paying anything at all for the second round. They apparently failed to do the work correctly the first time.

I don’t know your time frame, but around 750k-850k, waterpumps, turbos, fans, maybe compressors usually go bad. I don’t know how much of those were changed during the overhaul. I’m guessing turbo and waterpump. Compressor can easily last over a mil. Only given is the fan clutch. There’s a good chance, and I personally would try to get my money out of it for a while, after it’s paid off. Running it, as long as its still reliable. At some point, trading up. One year without a payment, is nice. I don’t know about new Truck warranties. Used to be one year only on the Truck. 500 on engine, 500 on trans, only 350on a 13. 750 on rears. Volvo, I think had a 36 mo. On the Truck. I imagine that explains why the Fleets went to them. But the one year on the Truck always seemed like a joke. I’d rather get a 1 yr old Truck, with under 100k, for 75% or less than new. My reasoning, besides cost, is fuel economy being better, since it’s already broken in. Less insurance cost. Lots of reasons. The downside comes later, needing Drive tires, brakes, and batteries etc. sooner. The last year of big payments and increased maintenance, is the hardest.
