Trailer Hub Caps

If you can fit the standard rubber plug in the sight glass I don't see why you couldn't toss the adapter out. Not unless there's something that needs to be changed out under the cover?

Unfortunately you're going to have to pull out all the bolts. You might get lucky and it'll stay stuck to the hub. Even then it may not stay sealed up well for long after you put the bolts back in. A nice little drip tray under there should catch it. Probably not much more than a quart in there anyways. Could always use this as an opportunity to change your hub oil?

 

Is it an illusion or will that adapter ring (and hub cap) have to be pulled off the hub every time you change a tire?

 

The adapter is for auto tire inflation hoses. With the system inoperable I would just replace the hubcaps with new ones when you put your beauty covers on. You need to make sure the system is disconnected and capped off, otherwise you can cause big problems with air pressure in the hub/seal area. Yes it will make a mess if oil bath bearings when you remove the cap.

 

No the wheel should fit over it. Just makes it a PITA though.

 

Jacking it up as high as you can one side at a time may help with pushing most of the oil away from the outer end. Just about every cap i’ve ever taken off has stayed stuck to the end without the bolts and needed a tap with a soft hammer to break it loose but i haven’t done as many as the other guys who responded either.
