So last night we were going through some old photos and I found some of my fathers old truck that he used to drive, it was a 99/01 international 4700. We were talking about it and I asked him if he double clutched or floated, and he said he always floated. I remember reading someone here that’s certain transmissions you have to double clutch and others you don’t. Is this one that you have to? I believe it was a 6sp

You can shift a straight 6 or straight 7 without using the clutch, as well as the Mack speed.

It has a low gear, so is that a 7 speed?

I believe the 4700 was a medium duty, and would have had the straight 7 speed( 6 speed with a L) and I think was a synchro trans so no floating was necessary. I only used the clutch to start and stop.

That’s what my father said he used to only use the clutch to start and stop. Even if it was bad for the trans it didn’t matter it was a Ryder truck anyways. . But it got me to thinking about if you needed to use to clutch or not

    201 Thanks this.
