interface is the word you were looking for.. The TND Dock is primary used for updates. Other functions are on the TND Dock Screen such as backing up your unit, telling RM..etc..

Logging is automatic. You do nothing, it keeps track of year/month/state/date/miles

Timers can be set for anytime, simply press the section of the screen, like for example, press "driving day" and the screen to change the hours will appear.

no printing output as of yet,

You cannot use your laptop to enter routes.

Smart Entry? the first screen,,, no it cannot be bypassed,, legal info

Town not found, what is the town/state?

Routing from your house to where? you can send me a private msg and I will forward to RM. Is the route from your house truck friendly? not as in the condition of the road, but how does your state view the road?

Not sure what you meant on your last sentence....

    thanks, Mark

Without the printing, makes much of those functions moot. If I have to write everything for my IFTA and IRP reports Just as easy to do that initially. Will see today how easy the interface to get the data out is.

The point of electronic logging is to not have to do the paper log, need printing for that.

    Mark-
According to the retailer's site, AND Rand McNally's, it was to ship, on, or about, Sept. 17. I rechecked both the RM and the retailer's websites several times, after the purchase on Sept. 7, and it always gave the same date. Even when I got the call from the retailer on the 14th or 15th he still said they would likely go out on the 17th or 18th, but no promise, til the 21st. Then all communication ceased. I understand RM cannot control the retailer, nor can the retailer control when RM ships to him. My complaint was the excellent communication between the purchase date and the promised ship date ceased to exist, after it didn't ship when promised. I would not be here complaining, if I had been given the courtesy of a call or email letting me know there was a delay. But I attempted to contact him several times, either via email or phone, and got ZERO response.
Until I contacted RM yesterday, spoke with Chu, and found out that they WERE in stock and shipping, then threatened the retailer that I might dispute the charge on my credit card, and buy directly from RM instead, did I get any response from him. Apparently it shipped yesterday, and I got UPS tracking information, today.
I didn't mind being charged, and having paid it off before getting the unit. My frustration was with the total lack of communication from the retailer, and my conjecture that this was likely a simple delay in the roll-out, when things didn't go as advertised in the roll out. Rand McNally should coordinate with their retailers, so that the retailers can pass on accurate information to the consumer, and avoid these frustrations. And, even if the fault were Rand McNally's, the retailer ought to have made the effort to send out a form email to purchasers, explaining there were delays beyond his control. Even if he didn't know why the delay was occurring. Especially when directly asked what was going on. This all could have been resolved by continuing the good communication, that had begun when the "roll-out" was imminent.
Delays happen, communication should occur, when they do, more so, than when they don't.

This is a navigation unit, not a electronic logging device. The unit keeps track of your mileage in each state for IFTA reporting. Easier than you trying to do this manually.

The timers are for your use, not electronic logging as per DOT. You still have to maintain a logbook.

It would be very useful if you could pull the states miles/dates data when the unit was docked. it would also be usful in my case to be able to import the routes that the states gives me on my permits from my laptop to the device.I doubt that the routes that the device give me will match up with my permits.
I know that what I am asking for is not the norm but with other devices it's a feature I use on a regular baises
The IFTA reporting would be great for all oo's that do there own reporting
    Thanks
