"Hot on the heels of seeking comments on a proposed pilot program to provide more flexibility in drivers’ hours of service, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Friday, Sept. 4, announced it’s proposing and seeking public comment on another new pilot program to allow drivers aged 18, 19, and 20 to operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce.
FMCSA is conducting a pilot program that allows 18-20-year-olds with military driving experience to operate in interstate commerce. The agency floated the idea last year and collected industry feedback on potentially proposing a second pilot program that allows non-military experienced drivers to drive trucks across state lines."

When I got my CDL is South Dakota when I was 19 for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why I was allowed to drive all over the state but couldn’t cross an imaginary line on the ground. After about a month the guy I was working for had me running to Mankato MN and bringing feed back west and then I started hauling cattle south down into KS. It was weird. The truck drove just the same and didn’t self destruct when I crossed those imaginary lines.

Some 18 yr old.s are responsible and mature enough and many more aren't. The ATA has been pushing for this for years as a way to get new meat in the seats while paying crap wages.

Said it in the duplicate thread already...
Makes no difference. 18 year old intrastate driving in CA can do just as many miles as a 21 driving interstate.
I'd also like to see vocational high school start training on it. Imagine the quality of the driver who is learning for a whole school year.Friend Thanks this. -
Just think of how many potential good drivers the industry is missing out on? An 18 year old with their #### together isn't going to sit around for 3 years, waiting to drive a truck. They're going off to trade school or college.
Chinatown Thanks this.
