I also have the DEA500 now you have me wondering. Mine doesn't reverse mute but I always turn the volume down when backing so might not have noticed. Now I'll have to check

    Turn the radio off.

    That fixes the problem.

Must be a new feature. I have the same stereo in my 2019 T680 and it doesn't mute in reverse, even though I turn the volume down myself while backing.

I don’t know about interfering with Bluetooth but, I can see it being a pain in the butt while listening to a George Strait or a Merle Haggard song.

Take your headset off and concentrate on the back up. I tell people I’ll call them later

And here I thought I was one a strange few that had to turn the radio down and get off the phone to back up or perform any other parking maneuver. Now I feel better about that.

All 6 of our T680's do this, 3 2020 and 3 2021, I was told by KW there is no way to disable that feature, talked to a local stereo shop, he said it's possible, but, he won't guarantee it, as some of them it's controlled through the ECM and the only way to stop it is to replace the radio

While it's easy to say "turn it off", "concentrate on backing", etc., on some of these radios, depending on what feature you are using, when the radio comes back on, it can change the feature. If I have my Ipod plugged in and playing when I go to reverse, as soon as it comes back up, it skips to the next song in the queue, if I have Sirius on, sometimes it will reset to channel zero. Co-worker has his phone running through it instead of a headset, when he goes into reverse, it mutes the phone, then when he goes back to drive it hangs up the call.

That's what I normally do, however, if I pull-up the audio starts playing. This "safety feature" makes me screw with the stereo MORE while I'm trying to get backed in than if there was no "help".

If I just turn volume to zero then when I pull-up it starts playing my audiobook, for example but I can't hear it. When I go back I'm some place in the book beyond where I left off.

If I turn the stereo off and then back I have to re-pair the phone & stereo.

My 2018 Freightliner had the same stereo but it had no reverse mute feature or it was disabled. I'd like to disable a few engineers.
