I always carry a rod just in case I see something interesting. I was down in Texas last December and noticed a little tributary coming off a river near where I was taking my 10. I took a walk out just before dusk and landed a few beautiful large mouth within a half hour. When I know I'll be running along the Oregon coast, I always take a surf rod and take my breaks near the beach.

Great recommendations! Thanks and please keep them coming...

I do not mind walking a mile or two to a lake/pond.

If you're in the right spot, there's white sturgeon in that stretch, too, if you're feeling like something more sporting...... !

white sturgeon considered at risk species. Just saying. Know the regulations. Can’t keep any for a few years now. White Sturgeon spawn in my cities river. Easily caught off the dock at boat launch

I live on San Francisco bay, and have caught my fair share of monster sturgeon over my lifetime. I never cared to eat them, so they were always hook and release. Bait fishing is boring, and I much prefer using lures which pretty much eliminates sturgeon fishing.

Get on some 2 lane idaho and montana backroads. There is a lake/river just about every which way u look and usually a good dirt pulloff on the side of the road.

yes sir, like the south fork of the Snake River just north of Swan Valley. There a nice rest area just north of the narrows. Bring a float tube and preferably a buddy to run you back to the truck. Browns, cuts and rainbows. Did I say monster browns?

there’s no native sturgeon above Shoshone Falls East of Twin Falls. These are all stocked through a cooperative program between the college of Idaho fish program, private fish hatcheries and IDFG. All catch and release, not allowed to take the fish from the water.
