My worst lumper fee was $1,200 for an ice cream load back in May. It was a Convoy load as well, and they were screaming about the lumper fees, which were half of the cost of my freight fees. They kept me at the door (with the doors open) for 7 hours, and I was calling Convoy every hour letting them know that my reefer can't keep the temp below freezing forever with the doors open, and I told them I would not be responsible for a product claim since they instructed me to open the doors when I backed up. I finally walked around the corner to the main office and found the terminal manager and explained what was going on, and they had me unloaded in 20 minutes. Lumpers are scum. They're union and get paid by the hour, which explains exactly why they take so long. That load cost somebody a lot of money, and I made an extra $400 on it for detention.
What's up with grocery warehouses?

Yes it is the biggest scam out there, probably far worse than a Used Truck Sales dealer. They charge you to unload the stuff they ordered. My worse one was $450 in upstate NY at a dry grocery warehouse. No wait though but, the lumper guy was certain to get his money.

40lb case of beef
80lb case of beef
70lb of beer battered chicken breasts (gave away a lot at truck stops)
11 cases of Tropicana Orange Juice (gave away most at truck stops)
Few cases of thick cut bacon
Few cases of breadsticks (big pizza hut style)
2 cases of General Tsos Chicken
4 cases of mozzarella sticks
Case of chocolate easter rabbits
Half a pallet of lemons (hometime load so most went to bars, restaurants, and food banks)
There's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.Brettj3876 and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
All i know is that for as long as i hold my cdl, i will never see a grocery house again. I just flat refuse to do it.

Lazy staff and lumpers. I don’t have those 12+ hour wait times too often but some places like the Safeway in Tracy, CA and C&S in Stockton seem to specialize in enraging drivers.
The Stockton C&S is so bad my company refuses to go there anymore, at least as far as I know. ... last time I delivered there the idiots in the receiving office took 2 hours to process drivers, then another 10 hours to unload me in which they pulled all of the pallets off and one of them was for another stop even though I told them repeatedly there was another stop on there. The moron unloaders kept insisting it was an overage. Then they lost my paperwork. To this day if a 12.0 earthquake hit and annihilated everyone and everything in that ###### area it wouldn’t break my heart any.
Places like that make me wish I had the “Darth Vader force choke” ability. -
Some genius at my outfit once sent a driver in there as part of a peddle run. It was his first stop of the day, and his last.Coffey, Speed_Drums and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
