Good day, I just wanted to ask the forum - have you ever heard of a fuel filter module drain valve going bad by itself?

I had just finished topping off the tanks and noticed a significant amount of fuel dumping on the floor and upon inspection noticed a lot of fuel coming from the fuel filter module drain valve. I thought it might have vibrated open seeing that it is a hand tight item, I tightened, but that did not solve the problem.

Also, can the drain valve be removed and replaced without having to replace the entire fuel module?

    thanks,

Did you turn it to where the nipple is all the way out or all the way in? The nipple should look like it’s all the way out for it to be closed and when it’s all the way in touching the module that means it’s open.

Hello, thanks for all the replies. I had to change the fuel filter module bowl. There is a kit that is sold to fix the mechanical valve that sits at the bottom of the bowl, however, Freightliner prefers to sell you the updated 2-filter module ($1,380), not including installation fees.

I was transiting from Texas to Florida when my mechanical valve went bad, I checked with my mechanic back home and he told me that there is a kit (bowl, valve, and o-ring) that would fix my problem, $250.00.

When FL in the Slidell LA service department told me that I needed an upgrade from a three filter module to a two filter module, I informed them that there was a kit to fix my problem and was told, "no such kit."

I was told that I could check with the parts department for the said kit. I checked and in fact, there was a kit, when I returned to the service department they had already revised the original quote from $3,080 to under $1,000. I had my mechanic overnight me the parts (used) - just because of the dishonesty.

After signing the quote I was told parts would be on order and should arrive the next day. Needless to say, they didn't arrive, and I presented my used parts and was told they could not use them, because of a small amount of rust on the bowl. I said okay, I would wait for the parts.

The next morning I called and was told the ordered parts were cancelled?!?!?! I returned to the dealership with my used parts and a lot of choice words - they installed my used parts. I lost 4-days of work because the Slidell LA Freightliner wanted to sell me a fuel filter module instead of being a standup dealership.

Sorry for the lengthy reply, just wanted people to know - stay away from Slidell LA Freightliner. Not only did I lose 4-days, but hotel, food, etc...

Do you have a part number or exact name for the kit you used
