You could get a ticket for not reporting another for leaving the scene. If you don't report it. Also insurance might not cover damage.
Maybe the other person is reporting a hit and run against you.
Good luckgentleroger, not4hire and AModelCat Thank this. -
Always a good idea to pull over and contact the police. Who knows, guy could have been pissed or high. With a license plate number off the trailer they shouldn't have too much trouble tracking the driver down.

Should always call the police in the event of a hit and run. I got sideswiped in Chicago and made a place report on the highway. Apparently the other guy made a report saying he's was sideswiped by a semi on I-294 and gave a description. Dash cam worked on my favor, haven't heard anything again.

Always a good idea to contact the Police, even if it's just to get a log entry out of it. I was in Los Angeles last year making a lane change in heavy traffic. Was 3/4 of the way in the lane stopped, caught movement in my mirror, watched a female driving a beat-up POS pickup make a lane change and sideswipe the trailer.
I pulled over, she didn't, but I called CHP. CHP showed up, gave me a Call Log entry number, no report as there was no damage, just a paint transfer on the aluminum from her truck.
About a week later I get a message from Safety stating a CHP Officer wanted to talk to me about a hit and run he was investigating, and I was the suspect. Apparently the female went home, called CHP, they took a hit and run report. She claimed I was on the freeway, sideswiped her POS pickup on the passenger side, forced her into the center median, where she scraped the drivers side on the median wall, and she saw me flip her off in my mirror, as I fled the scene. I told the Officer that was not how it happened, I stopped, she didn't, and gave him the Call Log number. Officer hung up, called me back about 20 minutes later, said he was sorry about the misinformation, and that he was going to write it up as a late report, was not going to assign fault, and include my statement. He said in the area she claimed it happened he couldn't find any damage or scrapes to the center median wall. I never heard another word after that from the CHP, Safety, or the insurance company.Flat Earth Trucker, Speed_Drums and AModelCat Thank this. -
