I’m trying really hard to just keep my mouth shut. I like Bob too. I just can’t help but think if he was making 1.75 a mile vs 1.15 a mile, how much different he would think about things. How much precious “time” is wasted by running for so cheap? Perhaps in a 70 hr week, around half those hours could be considered wasted?

It’s all about how you look at things. Sitting at a wash bay doesn’t seem so bad then.

Ugh... I am not so sure...when they pay $3-4 per mile I feel even more pressure to run 12-14k miles per month than when they pay $1-2 per mile, and literally to the point of physical exhaustion.
Or maybe not so much after I paid a visit to ER last week. LOL
However, after a month any White Volvo needs a truck wash. Now when the new HOS rules allow on Duty non driving status to qualify for 30 min break, it should be easier to find time for it.

The last company I worked for (as a company driver), the owner took pride in the way his equipment looked. He felt it was a reflection of the way he operated and the service he provided for his clients. I'd have his truck & trailer washed once a week and they never balked at paying it.

I do understand Bob's frustration of having to wait behind a lot of trucks in order to get a washout so you can meet the appointment schedule of your next pick-up.

If he's ever in Portland, OR there's a truck wash near Jubitz called JLE. They have a separate line for trailer washouts.

I do not run filthy looking equipment. You do not need to wash a truck more than once every couple months to keep the dirt knocked down and keep it looking decent.

Unless, of course you run off road or get into a mud pit.

EDIT. Also note that even if I were making $5.00 per mile, I would still drive 12-14k per month if possible. I am not a truck driver in order to park an ornament in a truck stop.

Not always there are long lines at Blue Beacons...Let's face it; $75 - $90 per wash is a nice bone in Ribeye steak dinner and 2 tall draft beers at Outback restaurants.. enough for a tip too. I mean, I have these dilemmas too. Sometimes, however, my White Volvo needs to look white too. Lol

Im the same way. I’d like to think it buys me more retirement time that I recapture much further down the line though.

Scooter has been using the high rates to work 25 hours a week less or so. But, he also has grand kids coming to the house so that seems like a great use of time.

Oh well. What do they say? Six one way, half dozen the other?

I can’t tell that it does anything. If you get through Greensboro nc. Davis power wash has a good spray on wax.

I just can't believe how big companies keep finding guys to run for a fixed rate. The guy who parks next to me at home, already ran over a million miles for PAM leasing their trucks. Right now his pay is $1.15 per mile including fsc and he only gets like 2500 miles per week doing reefer work
