    Only happened to me once.
With the money I had left, I rented a backhoe and bought three bags of quick lime.
Never had a problem after that.

To all those that say seperate accounts... You must not have stay at home wives.

My wife is a full time mother and does not work. If we were to have seperate accounts I would have to deposit money into her account for her to spend... I'm not sure how your wives would take that but my wife would say "I'm not a child, I dont need an allowance!"

If a couple cant figure out how to talk about money matters, and run expenses past the other before purchaseing then one is either taking advantage of OR abusing the others naivety.

HA! This one hits home, or the home I had. My ex was a total idiot, wonderful mother, but total idiot. She sure looked hot in that bar that night,,,anyway, I did it wrong, should have had an account for my trucking, but just threw it all in the savings. Big mistake. My ex was the kind, an outstanding bill was worse than all, so one day, I goes to the ATM, comes up, no money. I call her and say, where's the money? She said, I got sick of all the bills, so I took out the money and paid them all. I said, that's great,,,but what am I suppose to run on? Dial tone,,,

Now this is a good time for seperate accounts... One is a BUSINESS account... And the other is a JOINT personal account.

Had this happen to a friend of mine back in '08. He had his own truck, leased on with an intermodal company, and was doing rather well. Banked quite a pile of cash in their joint account and business account. She had access to both accounts.

So he had a bit of a tax bill in '06 and had to spend some money. He put a nice down payment on a new W900. Beautiful truck. Jumped to a different carrier in 07, pulling flatbed, and then in 08 the economy crashed. He was just getting by, due to lack of work.

She was spending money like a drunk sailor at that point, and when the economy tanked, she never quit spending. Their marriage was on the rocks by then.

Then in November of 08, he was in Texas waiting on a load. He had some time to kill so he went to pay his truck payment online. It was declined. So he looks at the checkbook to find he had 32 cents to his name. She cleaned out the business account for a shopping spree, and to pay credit card debt she accumulated. The joint personal account had $1.50 in it.

When he got home he handed her the divorce papers. She signed and left.

He sold the truck a month later to his new employer, and drove for them.

I'd say he learned an expensive lesson!

This is not a "wife only" issue. I have the exact problem with my husband. He's a disabled veteran who stays home. I am the breadwinner. Seeing the money in the bank gives him Impulsive Bying Syndrome, lol.
Communication is key. Talking it over before purchasing, that's how we both navigate this issue.
