Once upon a time with Fords if a torch had to be used to repair a unit it automatically became a cat B unit. May be still that way, I retired from car hauling in 2001.

    Hammer166 and Kozakvod Thank this.

I was wondering how often and how severe car haulers get whacked in truck stops.

We are talking a scuffed hatch they arent even replacing it. Remember it's a $1400 damage not 14,000

    Kozakvod Thanks this.

I used to haul for a Dodge dealer in NY who would buy every one of these "new" diminished value units he could find at the auction. They would always have a sheet on the passenger window with the repairs completed. Most of the time it was difficult to tell what had been repaired without looking at that sheet. I don't know if he disclosed the previous repairs to customers but knowing how he did business I seriously doubt it.

That is still very much the case with Fords. You crease or bend anything that doesn't bolt on, you're screwed.

Screwed unless you have an unexpected breakdown in front of a body shop. Crazy things can happen. Haha

I think the mfg dictates to the broker what the dealer wants and since the broker couldnt care if it's fair or not to maintain the account the carrier is screwed. I had a $1300 damage last year same mfg. That the dealer refused the vehicle and I was more worried about only because they refused it. But I paid the $1300 and never heard another word about it. Bigger heavier more expensive vehicles and yet the rates stay crap.

If I knew this was coming I would have paid a body shop to work off ladders to fix it. But seriously some of these dealers can detect wind burn on paint. Sometimes they are pointing at microscopic specs I cant even see . Some dealers have a three man teams for delivery inspections.
