I sleep really well in my truck, but I do my best to never stay at truck stops.

If it isn't the Swift guy ripping off the front end of somebody's truck, it's a 300-pound lot lizard banging on your door...

Both are pretty nasty to wake up to.

I had a woman banging on my door at 3 in the morning not long ago. I was pissed that I had to get up to let her out.

Come on @Midwest Trucker, I’m dying to know how you pulled that rabbit out of the hat.......

Oops, awkward metaphor, glad the driver is ok.

We found a tow truck operator out of Dallas that towed the truck and trailer to Austin and to the receiver. $2500 Mean while found a local lumper service that met the rig there at 1pm local. Took them until 2:30 but made that 3pm deadline! $650 Meanwhile also reserved a spot at the pilot on the south side of Austin and the tow truck delivered the rig there to await a driver. $30 The original driver is safe and on his way back home and meanwhile I have a new driver landing in Austin as I’m typing this. $650.

    Lost revenue $,$$$’s.
    Combined costs: $$,$$$
    Customer: VERY PLEASED = Priceless

I always enjoy @Midwest Trucker posts.

From discussing how his business is profitable to difficulties at times finding drivers, from things rolling smoothly to crazy women running forklifts through new trailers, he just says it like it is.

That life is not for me, but it is interesting to have a look into the goings on of a fleet owner.

I'm impressed! That's how it can be done, if you throw enough money at it... ;).

I had a customer call me about a year ago, they had picked up a load at a competitor up state, and their truck (two axle) derated on the drivers and was left immobile. After some consultation, they towed it 680 miles to Portland. Saved the load, but jeepers, that was a fair sized tow bill.... Had to switch tow companies half way at the Oregon border.

One of the few things that stuck with me in business school was an instructor pointing out that if it costs you money to save a deal with the customer, you have only lost a little money, but you still have the customer so you can make it back......
