Are there more companies in the building than just Abilene? Does KS now have a presence in Richmond? Or am I reading that wrong?

AMX is a subsidiary of Abilene.

Little off the subject, but I saw that you worked for Smithfield in the past. I drove for Trailways out of Norfolk from '63 to '72 and we ran from Norfolk to Richmond up hwy 10. The reason I am bothering you, how is hwy 10 now? Still two lanes? Have they bypassed Smithfield, Surry and Hopewell? It was back in '72 since I was on it.

Still 2 lane all the way. Pretty drive, though. On the rare occasion that my hubby can get me to go riding like we used to “back in the day”, we’d go as far as Surry on 10 and then cut over to 460. Used to hit up the Tasty Freeze in Wakefield until it closed. I haven’t been riding for the heck of it in probably 4 years. Too much “stuff” happening. Time to slow it down a bit and rest for a while. Going to be taking it slower and less work for the next few months, so maybe I’ll get the fun me back and want to do things again.

I hear that! I put a whopping 100 miles on my Electra Glide Classic in the past 15 months. Probably going to sell it rather than have it become a garage queen.

    MidWest_MacDaddy and dwells40 Thank this.

Trapped. Lineage Logistics in RVA. Tiny. Tiny. Tiny. One of those drop your mty. Pull out the loaded. Drop your loaded. Put the mty in same door. Deals. This place has zero room. Ugh. Waiting game for this guy to get loaded or unloaded so I can complete the mission. It’s my Friday. You’d think with the BS I’ve dealt with all day it was my Monday. SMDH

Was 10 the only route from Norfolk to Richmond then?

OH, no. This was before "deregulation". Greyhound had the authority to run from Norfolk to Richomond up then U.S. 60, now 1-64. Trailways had the authority to run hwy 10. Then Trailways ran the long way to Richmond, we ran thru Suffolk, Franklin, Courtland and Petersburg, this was once a day run. Up hwy 10 we ran around 3 times a day.

Before "deregulation", Trailways could run certain places where Greyhound could not and vice versa .

One of the worse accident that Carolina Trailways ever had was on 10. On a real foggy night, with a load of sailors, driver missed a curve and overturned. No one was killed but one sailor had brain damage and the outcome he became a "vegetable".

Had the day off yesterday for a dentist appointment. DM told me on Wednesday that he'd set me up with a load assignment on Thursday for when I got back in the truck on Friday.

And sure enough, he did! Right around 5:00pm yesterday I got a load assignment: Bobtail over to the Bunge plant in Sandston, pick up a load of margarine, and take it to Indianapolis. Due tonight at 7:00pm for a live unload.

Well that's a nice run. GPS estimates a total drive time of 10hrs 45min. I'll probably shave a little bit off that. Shouldn't have a problem making on-time delivery if I leave out at 6:00am, which is my preferred time to start my driving day.

Bobtailed to the shipper, hooked the pre-loaded trailer, and headed out.

An hour down the road, I got a message on my Qualcomm informing me that the receiver had rescheduled the delivery appointment. So now instead of it being due in Indianapolis tonight, it's due in Indianapolist Sunday morning at 10:00am. Dispatch wanted to know if I wanted to stay on the load or turn around and bring it back to the yard to get something else.

By that point I figured that any benefit I got from turning around for another load would be counteracted by not getting paid for two hours of driving (since the load assignment would just show me driving to Sandston and back). I probably coulda argued with 'em to get paid for those out-and-back miles, but I figured I would just stick with the devil I knew. So I stayed on the load and am now parked for the day at the Pilot in Staunton after putting in 147 miles for the day.

Don't have a beef with dispatch in this case. They gave me the choice of going back for another load and I turned 'em down, so that's on me. But I was appreciative that they asked me what I wanted to do.
