Hey, I’m OTR with Swift for just over 18 months. About two months ago I started getting almost exclusively Walmart import loads, up and down I-95. I was told by someone at my terminal we could expect a lot more Walmart freight in the foreseeable future.

The problem is I really dislike I-95 and I want to go back to OTR. I’m out 7 weeks at a time and was told I could “get by the house more often” but I didn’t come out to drive a truck just to get home more often. My fleet code got changed to “(I-95) REG”. Do I have any recourse? Who changed my code in the first place? I’m reluctant to ask my DM about it until I know for sure he’ll be able to change it back. Or if he’s the one who changed it.

And so I will, but not until I’m at home if you know what I mean. I was really just curious if this happened to other swifties as well. The reason I haven’t called yet is because I don’t expect my DM to be very helpful in this situation. He’s incentivized to keep me in his fleet and if he’s the one who put me on this route why would he change it back to OTR?

It seems like you're asking everyone *except* the one person who would know.

Let me say this okay my DM was from Alberquque,NM terminal he does mostly western states however when I from Lancaster, Tx request he be my DM and want do eastern states only he said that's fine. All mine cared about I wasn't some lazy driver because he said there's plenty in Lancaster.

Never had an issue with him also never had issue calling caring if what he thought because if I want and I know who has the answer I will call them idc if they don't chinatown can recommend a good company because you qualify for most trucking companies upon 2-year mark you qualify even more. Ultimately up to you if you think you can handle their crap.

Talk to your DM about it, and if you don't get answers you like then go the FM.
You may need to take it to the TM at some point.

Assuming you have a good record and reputation at Swift, they won't want to keep you unhappy with your situation.

    yeah.. happened to me once.
got a preplan out of one of those dollar something dc

thought it was going to another dc and not a store.
    boy was I wrong.
ended up unload the whole trailer at.one store.
when I fi.ally finished 5 hrs later and got back to dc... he asked if I was ready for tomorrow.
    I asked why..
he said I was on the account.
    I said no I am not.lol
called my dl and got that straightenned out real quick lol.
op... you gonna have to communicate with your dl with what you like to do or not to do.
    if you don't stand up.and say.something
.. they will assume you.like it

Also, don't forget to check those parts about Driver Load/Unload in the pplan.

    DPTrucker is right.
If you LET them push you around, they WILL.

Very early on with Swift I got off a load at around 1200. The pplan they sent me had me picking up at 2300 that night.
I turned it down, and my DM called to say that I will have had 10 hours off and should be ready for another load.
I said, Sorry, it doesn't work that way. If I can't get my sleep I am not going anywhere. And I don't sleep in the afternoon after being up only 8 hours or so.
    Something to that effect.
    But, I said NO.
    It never happened again.

They can try to control us, but we are the ones driving the trucks.
We have ultimate control over what we do out here, and how we do it.

    dptrucker and gentleroger Thank this.
