O/O here looking for advice on a big coolant loss of at least 1/2 gal - 1 gal per day.
    Truck: 2013 peterbilt 386
    Engine: ISX 15 400ST
    DATE: 12/12
    ENG # 79630574
    FAMILY: CCEXH0912XAP
    REF # : E6D2DP737C728J7471
Egr, dpf, def deleted. Inframed approx 250k miles currently 880k miles on odo
When I first started having coolant loss with no visible leak I ended up hydro locking in a dock. Was able to pull start and get it to my mechanic.
He determined that I had a cracked head and the cam shaft was flaking. New head, cam etc $11k and 2.5 wks down. I pick up truck and and start working and have to bring it back within one week. In that 1 week time I put 8gal of coolant in it. Mechanic took it all apart and supposedly took head to 2 different shops and those 2 places said no crack but an injecto cup was leaking. Mechanic ate that cost but I lost 3 wks no work.
Still having coolant loss at same rate. I do smell it while driving and every once in a while will see the white smoke/steam. I have an idea but I am no more than a shade tree at best. Without giving my idea I'm looking for yours. Any and all thoughts and responses are appreciated.

EGR cooler still in place? Could be leaking through system here.

Yes! Egr Cooler is still in place. That is what i was thinking is my issue. Do you know if I bypassed/ and plated it off if I would have further issues with anything else in relation to the egr cooler being "deleted"? Like I said, I'm a shade tree mechanic at best. You reckon I could tackle that myself?

Never did mine on my Cummins, so let someone else chime in. I think it's pretty easy once you get proper info.

I did a complete headgasket on a 387. A month later the headgasket on the air compressor started leaking using antifreeze. Take the cap off when it's cold and full. If you see air bubbles you might have a problem

If it's easy to bypass then try it and see what happens, might be an easy fix

Was your resivoir spitting coolant out? Mine does. Surely its not spitting a gallon a day but it does spit it out through the pressure cap. I changed both caps the other day and still spits. My resivoir is approx a yr old.

I'm sure I could probably do it. However, my concern is I don't have a shop or cant get bobtail to the house. So all my work would be done at where I park but if I get stuck with an issue I can't just drop it and come back..

If your reservoir is spitting coolant out you have issues. I'd bring it back to the shop that worked on it.
Shop can isolate if air comp, or egr cooler.
