That’s always been my mindset as well. $10k per year goes along way.

Yeah Southern California is booming now and has been for quite a while. I usually run out there from Knoxville every week. I did one last week from San Bernardino back to Knoxville for 6650. So yeah I believe it or not that's about right

Pretty consistent with what we're seeing, too. It's all a bit busy that way, heading Eastbound. Not sure why, but it's been way up.

I'm not really into posting numbers but I'll make an exception here just to see what some folks including yourself feel...

Load was posted yesterday on ITS Michigan City, Indiana to Solon, Ohio. Loaded 13:00 delivered 20:00 straight thru today Friday... No tarp, shingles, #45k... 302 miles broker had it at $1700.00...

Posting was 6+ hours old which surprised me, I figured at that rate it was more than likely already gone and they just forgot to remove it.

Now for a guy like myself I feel thats a really good rate for shingles on that lane considering Solon is Cleveland area which, is definitely a good flatbed market. TBH I think that's a really good rate for most general flatbed freight no tarp provided its not delivering to BFE like N. Dakota or a place similar, some folks might not agree but ok...

So me asking the broker for more money is that greedy or just business? To be honest I felt kinda bad asking for more, I was actually pretty reluctant but did anyhow... Nothing earth shattering, and extra $100... Broker agreed on rate...

    So $1800 for 302 miles...

I see that lane always posted for $750-$1000...

Maybe it was posted at that rate due to the Friday night drop and the chances of getting a reload on a Saturday was slim?

They certainly didn't appear to need them at the delivery point, had pallets of shingles stacked up like no tomorrow...

Tbh, that's just business. I wouldn't take it personally. And yeah, that was already a pretty good rate. Me, personally, I guess it'd depend on the circumstances, and how much traction I'd had been getting going into that point on whether or not I'd have pushed back on that extra hundred. There were a few this week where it was, "Welp, guess I'm taking any reasonable offer." A friday to friday night straight through? Prolly falls into that category.

Now, as to whether or not they needed it? Hard to say. Don't know the jobsite or how fast they're gonna go through it. Probably they did, since that's $800 more than I'd expect to need to pay on that lane.

I'm sure you have seen this week or the past couple northwest Indiana has had a ton of freight listed, steel has certainly been rocking and rolling in that area...

But even with that I was surprised to see it listed that high...

And for the record it didn't deliver to a job site it was a Home Depot DC....

Yeah. Boss has had some stuff outta that area. He runs it like clockwork. He gets more of it when the rates are up.

And with that Home Depot deal- I gotta imagine that was some contracted deal and the broker was under the gun. I'm currently trying to muscle in on a potential new customer who's contracted with CH Robinson. Apparently they've been dropping the ball the past few months.

would the initial listing at $12k usually mean INCLUDING or EXCLUDING permits and escorts?
