A law proposing the ban of Jake Brakes on local streets in Haledon, New Jersey is expected to pass this week.

Steep hills that run throughout the north and west end of the borough and a concentrated area of truck traffic near a local quarry has made the brake noise an issue to local residents.

The Borough Council was scheduled to vote on the braking law Thursday night. Signs were already posted on two roads near the quarry to alert drivers of the pending ban.

If the law passes, drivers who are first-time violators would face a fine of $150 and up to 10 days in jail.

New Jersey town plans to ban Jake Brakes, proposes fines and jail time for violators

If you go there a lot, starting sending them a bill for new brakes! Maybe pro-rate a tad.

If he goes there a lot, has unmuffled jakes, he's likely the reason for the law.
If not him, then some other driver.

Most locals don't bother making a law unless there is a reason.

It states that there’s a giant hill coming into the town that would make sense to use jake brakes coming down hill...And especially when you’re loaded and dealing with the rock quarry which Will Have some steep inclines as well

    3- Exceptions.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to engine braking where necessary for the protection of persons and/or property which cannot be avoided by application of an alternative braking system. Noise caused by the application of engine compression brakes, otherwise known as engine-braking, which is effectively muffled or if the application is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the community is exempt from the provisions of this section. Sounds created by emergency equipment for emergency purposes are also exempt.

    3 months later:

“a number of increasing truck accidents in a NJ town.”

Also, JAIL TIME FOR USING YOUR BRAKES?!? Have they completely lost their minds?!?

Screw it, I would run over a few cars. “Sorry about the damage, but that’s what insurance is for. It’s 10 days in jail to use my brakes.”

    Badmon Thanks this.

Man.....no need for any of us to upset. First how are they going to enforce it? The newer trucks, I mean, you can't hardly hear them so what are they talking about.
