NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A musician that's been part of the Tootsie's family was killed in a crash Sunday evening on Interstate 65 in Nashville.

Shawn Scruggs has been part of the family at the honky tonk on lower Broadway for over a decade.

"His talent could have taken him all over the world. We were blessed to have him grace our stages," a statement from Tootsie's entertainment said.

Metro Police said Scruggs crashed into a stalled semi on I-65NB near Dickerson Pike at about 7 p.m. He died on the scene.

Folks are taking to social media to share condolences:

They said he made no attempt to brake and the Blazer (no pun intended) he was in caught fire.

The initial police investigation shows a tractor-trailer stalled in the middle of the northbound of I-65 near Dickerson Pike around 7 p.m.

Police said Shawn Scruggs, of Nashville, crashed his 2008 Chevrolet Blazer into the back of the tractor-trailer.

So basically he was at full speed when he plowed into the truck ??? He probably didn't feel anything, it was probably instant...

Cannot believe the truck driver wasn't able to get the truck on the shoulder? Seems odd....

Odd, yes, but it does happen. I remember that same scenario on I-69 in Flint, MI behind the GM plant. A Mercedes plowed into the back of a truck stopped in the middle lane.

Even if the truck just up and died you would think the driver would atleast have the brains to strong arm it in neutral , off to the shoulder. Rather than just pulling the breaks in the middle of travel lane

    rachi and JonJon78 Thank this.

    What if it’s an Auto?

Possibly the driver didn’t have the brains or situational awareness to do that. Sad state of affairs out here these days.

Well the truck is still gonna be rolling if ur at highway speeds . Unless he was in stop and go traffic and it died i dont see why he stopped in the travel lanes

    JonJon78 and Trucker61016 Thank this.
