You do realize that companies like LS , Prime, Schrader all re-broker their best freight to make the price look lower? You think they aren't playing the same games that normal brokers do? Maybe they have some run that they are getting $3.50 mile on but they know they can get their leased on trucks to run it for $1.80 to $2/mile.. So they re-broker it to one of their other brokerages then back to skim money off the top before you ever see the load. So they say this is what the load is paying your 75% is X amount ours is this amount but what they don't tell you is they already skimmed 15% off the top before you ever saw it,.
The only difference is you are paying them a lot more to have only one company to haul for and they are playing the same games any of them play. If it works for you and are happy then by all means continue but I'm just asking why many of you never consider your own numbers.Last edited: Nov 1, 2020

Lets use the most lucrative LS payment which is reefer at 25/75.
If independent o/o and LS o/o both make 200k. The LS owner loses 50k off the top plus 52/wk for insurance. That brings the LS o/o down to 147,296 after insurance.
First year independent o/o insurance should be around 26k. That brings the independent o/o down to 174000 after insurance. After the first year the insurance for and independent o/o will keep dropping making that gap wider. Ive seen independent o/o paying as low as 14k.
Is it worth it? That's up to the individual to decide. But to conclude "the pay to the truck" is the same is foolish.
Now keep in mind the more money you make at LS the more money you pay. So if you make 230k it turns in to 57.5k plus the weekly insurance fee. Making it a whopping 60k after insurance. Bringing the net after insurance down to 170k. Which is still less than what an independent o/o makes after paying insurance grossing only 200k a year.
"but but but I dont have to wait for my money."TheDudeAbides and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
The agents are independent business owners with a contract with Landstar, just like me. They work for themselves not Landstar, just like me. Landstar does not bring find us Freight the agents/load brokers do.
So please continue telling us all how much you know about Landstar. -
I’d bet the ranch that Schneider double brokers loads to themselves......

Even with cars, I ask for more money when I'm booking them. Brokers know what they can put a load on the board and move it for so they always have wiggle room, unless the rates spiked for some reason you always ask for more.Last edited: Nov 12, 2020
