Here in AZ. If there a mobile scale. They have a 5 mile radius. A cop can be four miles away and if he decided you need to go to the scale. He will stop you and escort you to the scale. Seen it happen. They do post signs saying all commercial trucks must exit. they usually have a motorcycle cop for drivers who don't exit. Now this is for the city of phoenix area.

It's about like coming south on 491 in NM and you want to go east on 40 at Gallup and the signs say ya gotta go west to cross the scales! That's 24 miles round trip OOR! I think they need to open a new set of EB scales east of exit 20 cause if they want ME to cross them they better be sitting there! I go south on 491 instead of going EB on 64 to 550 due to all of the stop lights and low speed limits and it's better in fuel! It's that or keep the scale at shiprock open!

I'm thinking if the state uses an area only occassionally to set up portables/inspections, they will for sure post signs letting the driver know to exit way in advance. Never heard of any "5 mile" rule.
-
however, the sign 2 miles before the 95/495 slpit says ALL TRUCKS MUST EXIT, yet, any truck going south on 95 never exits, when u enter that scale and you leave they have an exit inside the loop for 95 s and 495 w, yet, 100 trucks rolling south, and everytime i go in, only like 4 or 5 trucks, usually trucks runing down 495 south, and the chatter on the cb is always the same, " they cant catch us all "
so if the sign says ALL TRUCKS MUST EXIT, how come knowbody does? cause its NOT oor. -
yes, they do post large signs a few miles before you have to exit. the 5 mile rule is use alot on iron road and elleworth out in the east valley. also on the east side on 202. maybe some of you guys can say something about this. All trucks got pulled over on the 101 north bound. after you got weighed. you have to be inspected. While waiting for it. Me and a few drivers were talking when we saw a T/T US mail. The cops wave him through. No scale or inspection. We ask why he didn't have to scale. The cop told us that. They can not stop or slow down the mail. A federal law. He then said. They can follow the truck to the mail terminal, But they have to wait until the truck is unloaded. So, it would be a waste of time for them. -
cause its screwed up to get into. I go west on 495 from the north to go toward home but it dont matter which way i go i never stop
guess its the produce left lane outlaw in me I cant help that -

I know the scale your talking about, it's on 385 between Bridgeport and Alliance, on the West side fo the highway. The signs for it are north of the turn off for Scottsbluff. If your NB and making the turn for Scottsbluff, then you do not have to stop at the scale. With Sugar Beet harvest in full swing, that scale will be open a lot as they try and generate some revenue. Since yout in Alliance your probably aware they are setting up a speed trap on the NB side of 385 at the parking area between 64 and Alliance.muscletruck7379 Thanks this.
