Driverless trucks

You made the other point I was gonna bring up in my long post but you did already so I left it out. I’m with you, I can’t see this happening, it would absolutely cripple millions of families and cost billions in tax revenue they would have gotten had them drivers still been in trucks still.

 

I've seen some ads for 18 yr. old cdl drivers to work for household goods movers.
You can travel with the other driver cross country as a driver helper, but can't drive the truck except within your state.

Don't believe everything that your teachers tell you!

 

You have a dream and a desire. Good for you! Go for it! All you have to do now is act on it. To do so will require that you have a plan. You should also have a back up plan. Like any journey you will need a map to show you where your going, and the best routes to get there.

Learn to recognize the success and failures of those who have travelled before you

There will be plenty of detours, distractions, closures, bad directions and misinformation ( both from ignorance and malice intent) along your path. And there will be days of great joy, happiness and satisfaction, that you will want to stop and do it again. It will be how you prepared and respond to them all, that will be the measure of your joy or regret as you look back on your travels.

Calm seas, do not make us good sailors. Be disciplined in your resolve, and above all else...enjoy the journey. God Speed!

 

They all say nobody will pay you to look out a window, guess we all know better.

 

As said above always have a plan B.
If trucking ever goes totally automanis you will have several years to prepare for your next profession.

 

Trucking will never be TOTALLY automated. Not even close.

Well, 1st, it's refreshing to hear your motives, and not, who will hire me with a bad record or the last gig in town. 2nd, you have plenty of time, most places won't even talk to you until you are 23, I think. Self driving trucks are merely a pipe dream, at best, maybe someday you might see it, but not in a pickup and delivery deal. If you can, I'd find a job on a freight dock, maybe even back a truck in, or go on a ride along to see if it's for you, there's a lot more to it than school. Good luck.

 

That is a fantastic idea! Look for a job as a dockworker when you graduate High School. I think UPS would be my choice. I have known several UPS Drivers throughout the years. The local P&D guys. They make some great money and have great benefits. Probably one of the best run Teamster Companies in the Country. A real good time to get your foot in the door is several months before Christmas. They hire a crap load of temp workers and lots of them wash out. If you are one of the "Smart ones", and stick it out and put up with the BS that is involved, you are in the pool that they begin to hire from for full time work.
