Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

Yeah, i always take a picture of my hub, odometer, and filled out trip sheets for my records.

This was my first trip for October

 

No offense but I make that locally with my horrible company I work with here . There’s better out there but I’m glad you’re happy for the most part .

 

Did you notice that you just replied to an 8 year old thread. He doesn’t even work there anymore.

58 cpm on the hub now, 50 new petes on the way. Same old crap different day.

 

Yeah they talked about that at the safety meeting.

I wish they would improve the shop. I got back to Grand Prairie and had two days of holdover. I asked the shop to replace a bad battery.

Big mistake, they were too lazy to do it in the two days I was there. Then they wouldn’t let me out of the front gate because of the battery.

I was eventually forced out of the yard in a loaner truck, which I was stuck with for a week, because it took the shop 4 days to replace the battery.

Never again will I report anything to that shop unless the truck is dead or I’m going home for a week.

If I have to drive a truck out of the yard with a flat tire, I will do it and call for road service.

 

I left after 14 months in early 2012 after I got cited for doing 16 over in Stanfield OR. Since I'd kept my record squeaky clean for over 5 years and just purchased a second car only weeks before (to keep parked in Grand Prairie), the minor slip-up so demoralized me about OTR that I immediately gave Pat my notice and left three weeks later. I worried that my insurance rates would go up for not just one but two cars. When I was clearing out the truck in GP and mentioned this to another Poly driver, he said "they might not go up" and it turned out he was right: State Farm apparently never found out about the citation.

Poly didn't take me back when I tried rehiring in late 2012. I can see at least three possible reasons why: (1) my reason for leaving was flimsy..."if he decided to leave just because of that, he probably won't stay long the next time either." (2) during 2011 I repeatedly posted questions in online tax forums to try to find out whether Poly's unusually high per diem percentage at the time was legal or not. In these posts I would often mention the company's name. If management ever saw any of these posts---and I suspect they did catch wind of them and see them---well, you get the picture. They lowered the per diem percentage to an industry-standard level beginning in 2012. Did my posts play a role? Maybe. (3) I refused to use propane heaters in dry vans and made it clear in my application for rehire that I would continue to refuse.

The only thing I didn't like at Poly were those Internationals they started buying back then. Trucks without an upper bunk are a dealbreaker for me. Other than that I loved the job and highly recommend it to prospective applicants. Glad to see they're switching over to Petes now (they need to have upper bunks for the switch to be meaningful though...I hope they do).

 

None of the Pete’s or newer trucks have the upper bunks that I am aware of.

Some guy brought up the bit about the upper bunks in the annual safety meeting.

They said they got rid of them years ago because too many people were complaining about hitting their heads.

Never hit my head with an upper bunks.

The lack of storage space on the Pete’s is really frustrating. I have so much stuff stacked on my bed, makes it difficult to keep organized.
