Hey guys so I’m forming a plan for what I need experience in for example hazmat and tanker etc. When I finish my 1 year OTR for experience I would like to come home and work locally in my area which is Tri cities TN (Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson city). Anyone in this area or got experience working locally here? Looking for a company where I get paid minimum 1000 a week and home everynight. Also prefer no touch freight like what you get with Sysco breaking your back to unload trucks all day. Thanks in advance.

Look at the tanker outfits in and out of Eastman Chemical in Kingsport every day. Must be several local outfits in that bunch. Good luck

That's what I was thinking too. And I believe Eastman themselves have drivers of their own just moving trailers around the plant. Busy place!

Boasso America opened a new terminal in Kingsport.
Used to they did out and back.
Usually 1-2 days out then unload and come back empty.

At one time they did a 1k minimum

Local jobs in this area aren’t plentiful and a good portion of them are on a “who you know” criteria for hiring. This applies even with the LTL outfits that have terminals in the area. And at that, many of them pay below average (and therefore below your 1k minimum).

With that said they do exist, especially hazmat with Eastman based here.

LTL outfits with terminals here are Southeastern, SAIA, XPO, USF Holland, and FedEx Freight. Estes has a terminal in Greeneville. Central has a terminal in Bristol VA, my understanding they don’t pay well and you drive junk though. Averitt has a good size terminal in Kingsport with both local and regional positions.

Plenty of tanker outfits in the Kingsport area. Tidewater, Transport Service, Heniff and Superior Carriers. AirGas has been advertising for hazmat local drivers but the description then says you may have to run team for awhile until a position opens so I’m not sure about that. AirGas is building a big new facility next to Eastman that they may need new drivers to service shortly.

Eastman has their own internal trucking company that runs the yard shuttle trucks, dump trucks, etc. They pay well but almost never hire externally, unless of course you know someone. From my understanding they also work a rotating shift in that you work x amount of days on day shift, off x amount of days then work x amount of days on night shift.

Landair has a fleet of day cabs on the back part of Eastmans property that they run containers to Greer SC with. They are home every day and run some hazmat, not sure about the pay.

I’ll add more as they come to mind. I live in Johnson City myself

Another tricities trucker here. Didn't realize we had such a presence on this site. Sorry I dont have any info on local jobs for you as I'm just a lowly skateboarder myself.

Lol, I live just down the road near Knoxville but better than half of my freight comes and goes from Tri Cities area. I have family there too. Been looking to buy some land towards Erwin/Flag Pond.

There is a lot of trucking going on in the Tri Cities area, couldn't be a bad place to be based.
