Hi Guys got a problem I have been chasing for a few months now,
the truck is a 2014 KW T660 with the Cummins ISX engine.
It will start first thing in the morning run for +/- 40 seconds then dies.
It will restart after cranking on it for about 20-30 seconds, but acts like its a cold start, with the smoke and so on, it will smooth out real quick and then run all day long with out a problem.
we had it in the shop, they put in new batteries, replaced 3 injectors ( claimed they where bad), but still have the problem.
Has any one ever experianced a similar problem ? any suggestions?
thank you
2014 ISX starts then dies re-starts and runs

Does that have an electric lift pump? Maybe wouldn't call it a lift pump but electronic non the less
crewman767 Thanks this. -
I would be checking the fuel system. Sounds like either drain back or air entrapment that only occurs when setting. Once running the pumps overcome the issue and can supply enough fuel demand.
The engine does have a lift pump but is only needed for priming. Once the system is primed it is not used. The pump runs for 2 minutes only at key on.
First stop, check fuel filters and installation for proper installation and part number. If you have a Davco frame mounted theres a check ball in the fuel inlet to prevent drainback. Look for fuel leaks or wet lines that may indicate air entering the fuel system on the suction side.
Any faults logged or CEL when this occurs? -

Having same issue. Had the truck for 5 years now, every time I start it, it runs for a few seconds then quits. Then will start on second attempt and run good. Definitely runs rich, exhaust smells bad of fuel. Have done fuel check valves, fuel lines etc. still didn’t solve it.
How did you solve your issue?? -

Hello guys, I know this is a old post.
But I can't seem to find enough posts on this. I've got the same problem.
Have 2020 Pete isx 565 performance, 150 k miles on it , ran outta fuel 4 months ago, used started fluid (I know it's bad for these engines) cuz it won't just start, now every morning it shuts off first start after 2 seconds, then 2-3 tries with lot of rounds will start up and runs just fine all day long. Had Cummins done full service on it 2 months ago, problem vanished for a month then came right back, no faults or codes at All. Last couple of days I turn ignition on and let it sit for 3-4 minutes and starts up just fine. Seems like fuel issue? Anyone?
