KW... new issue since the breakdown and dealership visit... but the repair was a new fuel pump/filter/screen... so I highly doubt there’s a connection. Just odd timing.

First... I strongly believe Driver Safety would be FCCs #1 priority... Period... If you don’t feel safe, go someplace that is safe... Period... take an HOS Violation if you need too. No one should feel unsafe parking for a 10/34... ever. And FCC would never knowingly put you in such a situation... Period... (too many Periods???)

but ya, freight has deadlines too.

As to your question, I’ve only been here 5 months but seems FCC really leaves many of the decisions about planning the trip in the hands of the Driver. (Except fueling) and while I HAVE had a handful of very tight runs, they normally have a very large window with which to pickup or deliver. Unless it’s a scheduled only location.

I would describe, at least my limited experience here, you normally park where you want and then drop during your 11/14 and roll out to your next load. It took me a bit to change my habit of parking on site to avoid starting my clocks in the morning after 10 and delivery but we have awesome planners here so one is rarely waiting for their next load for that to be an issue.

BUT... I’ll park just about anywhere and never felt unsafe nor gotten a ticket (ya, just jinxed myself I know) ... shipper, receiver, mall parking lot, on ramps, off ramps, even once beside a corn field. Never felt unsafe. To be honest, I prefer to avoid Truck Stops for my 10 if possible.

if you are considering FCC, you are considering a GREAT company... drivers are respected not abused... very professional people... they do their jobs and we do our jobs... it works.

Thanks Midwest, this was the answer that I was looking for. To be clear safety is always my #1 priority over everything as well and I am very, very rarely late for loads.

I kind of thought FCC wouldn't force drivers to sleep on public roads outside the warehouses overnight if they didn't feel comfortable doing that, based off the reviews in this thread. But I just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks for the reply!

It doesn’t matter what company a driver works for. The driver is the captain of his/her ship. The driver decides where it is safest to spend the night. Period.

Absolutely correct. Even at my company, I have the final say so in where I sleep.

Sorry. Don’t have firsthand knowledge of FCC specifically. BUT the camping toilet is a lifesaver. You will, at times, have to spend the night in areas with no facilities. Some shippers/receivers, heck some truck stops. But, it’s all good. If you never have to spend the night in a less than desirable area, then God bless you. It happens to all of us at one time or another.

Well after 7 days at the house it was back to reality today. Loaded in Matthews, NC ( I’ve never loaded here before) going to Topeka, Kansas for a drop. It will most likely be Wednesday morning before I get there. My scheduled load time was 1400, I eased on over there about noon, they had me in a door about 1230 and had my bills in hand at 1530.

My truck is supposed to be done at the Freightliner dealer in Omaha tomorrow. The coolant loss was due to a bad EGR cooler, nox sensor replaced, and a rear pinion seal replaced. Hopefully the truck issues will be done for awhile, it hasn’t been a very profitable month.

Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to crap inside my truck...if I gotta go that bad, I'll find a place to go.

I’m not talking about that....mostly. Being a female, there are places I have had to park that you wouldn’t want to get out of the truck in the middle of the night, walk through a creepy truck stop to go in to use a nasty restroom. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And for #2, I’d rather be able to dispose of things in a sanitary way than have another person potentially come across it. Like if you’ve gone under your truck or behind your trailer in a truck stop or elsewhere. A camping toilet is not an unsanitary thing. Stop acting like prima donnas. I grew up on a farm. If we were plowing the back 40, there was no bathroom. To go in the woods was common. Out here, there is no woods. Why drop a load in a public area or make the parking lot stink like piss when you can be at least a little sanitary and can’t get into a bathroom?
